1988 460 motorhome starting problem

I have an 1988 ford e-350 motorhome, it would not start i replaced the starter solenoid because it broke while trying to clean the contacts, then replaced the starter. still no luck tried bench testing the old starter slowly spun over but why didn't new starter work in vehicle? bench tested new starter did same thing maybe my power source is not enough, pulled starter wire off solenoid and ran new batt to that sparked but no luck, went under and with old starter hooked jumper cables directly to starter and grounded at block still no luck, returned new starter and had old starter tested again at different store it passes but seemed not to crank real fast and was pulling 14 volts. tried new fully charged batt a friend had still not turning over? What do i do? trying to isolate the problem but not sure if i need new starter maybe both were bad. also when hooked up correctly with charged bat old or new starter when key is turned it just clicks tested the solenoid at starter terminal not gettin 12 volts when key turned, only .34-.44v. maybe new solenoid is bad too? please help. Dean

When its hooked up, you should be able to put 12 volts on the little stud on the solenoid and it should start. One large stud will have 12 volts on it, so just jump it right there. Did you get the wires in the right place. The solenoid should have 1 large wire going down to the starter. Be sure the battery cables are clean and tight ( both ends) Check battery voltage when cranking, should go to 10-11 volts. Check voltage between negative terminal on battery and engine, should be ZERO when cranking. The solenoid has 2 large studs, make sure the battery positive wire and all the other wires are hooked to this stud, the other large stud should just have the wire going to the starter.

1991 Rockwood driftwood series RV-Starter won't stop

Is the solenoid getting power when it shouldn't be ? Faulty key switch ? The solenoid should only get power from the key switch in the start position.
Was the problem happening before you replaced the solenoid and starter ?

I have a 1999 fleetwood motorhome I cant start it . there is power to the starter but from the key to starter there is no power

There are two things to look at, the first is the neutral safty switch, try putting it in neutral and see if it starts, if it does then replace the switch, and the other is the ignition switch, the the cylinder but the switch in the column,i have seen these older trucks with worn shifters where you need to push it into park and hold it while you start it,good day

I over turned the steering on my ford 350 econoline van and it stalled and now it dosen't start,Alternater light goes on when turn egnition key on.I cleaned battery posts solenoid posts ground cable to...

Does the starter solenoid at least click?
If not, then solenoid is the problem.
If it does click, then could be starter, low battery, or something else we would walk through.
Ford usually has a round starter solenoid on the fender near the starter, but not part of it.
Fords also sometimes need to have the engine turned a bit by hand, to get it past a spot where the bendix binds.

1991 ford 460 won't start

Make sure the connections are Clean and tight on the solenoid first. The solenoid itself has rather small studs
holding those big cables. If checking those connections does not solve the problem then you need to crawl under the rig and check the cable on the starter if tight the starter will need to be replaced.

Ford F-350 1988 wont start with key,but power to all other electronics,so not starter? I can start it with the cylinoid start switch by crossing it.

Replace the starter solenoid, I have a 1985 F-150 and did the same thing, it worked, but if it didn't, I was going for the ignition switch next.

1996 Fleetwood Motorhome Start problem

First before we start buying any parts. Have someone tap the top of the starter solenoid on the pass side engine wall. Do this while you're turning the key.If it starts thats one problem out of the way. As far as the regulator and its condition the coach could have been asembled in several possible states and or countries. I've never seen two alike unless they were lined up at a dealership...lol. Just grab one of those 10 dollar meters and check the voltage at each battery while its running, while it's not running and while you are switched to dual mode. All may be well.or not. But you'll save a lot of time with that little meter. There is no practicle way(being a sealed unit) to actually check the regulator.Keep it simple and take your time. Good Luck. P.S. The alternator also has an internal regulator so run checks with the lights and fans on to make sure your getting sufficient voltage all the time. Thanks, Dana.
