If the brake paddle feels hard and high no air in brake system, what you need to check is your power brake booster, here's how to check it, make sure that the big vacum hose that goes to the brake booster has vacum with engine on (sit in back of master cylinder) then with engine off press on brake paddle three time's, should be hard, keep foot on brake paddle start engine paddle should go down a few inches if it does, take foot of of paddle turn engine off, should be able to step on brake paddle three time's before it get hard again, if none of this happen while testing bad brake booster replace.

Check the vacuum line going to the brake booster.

This is the big round chamber behind the master cylinder.

Hope this tip helps.

If the brakes work but you have to push very hard, try checking the vacuum supply to the brake booster with the engine running.

1988 ford ranger manual truck can not shift

Look and see if there is a second master cylinder under the hood of your truck, near the brake master cylinder, in fornt of the driver's seat.
This would be the clutch master cylinder, and should be slightly smaller than the brake nmaster cylinder.
From your description, that clutch master cylinder may be out of fluid, brake fluid.
Probably your slave cylinder has failed, it is attached to your transmission on the other (lower end) of the brake line from the firewall master cylinder.
Adding brake fluid might get the clutch to work long enough to get your car to a garage or up on some ramps so you can fix it.

I do not have any front brakes on my 94 ford ranger. they just went out no noise or anything. i am having problems trouble shooting the problem. what should i do?

most likely the master cylinder is by passing and the only thing grabbing is the rear brakes. try pumping the pedal to see if it gets firm for a moment . if so then replace the master cylinder. if not then look for a leak in the brake system.

I just put on a new master cylinder for brakes. and i bled all the brakes, but the pettel still is spungey. please help. 90 ford ranger 2.9 production date is 10/89. if that helps

If you just installed a new master, did you bleed it prior to hook up? Also with that it takes awhile for the air to get pushed through. Rebleed your system (furthest first). This will take a bit of fluid.

How do i change manual to power brakes on 1988 ford ranger

Not sure exactly but I love to do stuff like this. First thing I would do is go to a salvage yard and rob the pieces form another truck with power brakes. You know you need the booster and the master cylinder, but you might also need the pedal and the pedal bracket. All the lines and the combo valve and calipers and wheel cylinders should be fine.

Replacing my brake booster

go to the master cylinder and remove it from the booster, disconnect the vacuum line from the booster, then disconnect the brake plunger from your brake pedal inside the vehicle, then remove the booster mounting bolts from inside the vehicle then remove the booster, install in reverse order, once you install the master cylinder, you will need to bleed out any air in the brake system, hope this helps, let me know

Adjust your rear brake shoes. Then rebleed the system. Start at the master cylinder Bleed master first then the wheel furthest away from the master (right rear then left rear then right front then left front. Do that and your pedal should be good.
