I have Honda Accord 04 reg and the automatic tailgate function started to intermittently fail and then eventually stopped altogether. during failure the tailgate will not open with the handle on the outside of the tailgate or the remote control. As as emergency measure the manual override handle on the inside of the tailgate was used and the tailgate.could be opened from inside the car. Further investigation found that the warning light on the dash is showing that the tailgate is open but the tailgate is physically closed. As a result the alarm sounds when the car is secured.
NOTE: The tailgate has started working again using the remote and also the outside handle but when the car is locked the alarm sounds because I think the car thinks the boot is still open. When the tailgate fails to open with the remote it also means the manualhandle on the OUTSIDE of the tailgate will not release the tailgate.
Please help I am disabled and need the tailgate to be able to open.
I have a similar problem, my tailgate stopped working with the outside handle and the remote but can be opened manually from the inside. I don't have an alarm so there is no problem with that but did you get a solution for the tailgate problem that I could try?
Remove rubber boot seal and pop plastics off retaining roof lining. The motor and controllers for auto boot is located in the head lunning behind the rear passengers head, about a foot back. Drop the roof lining down to reveal the motor. Water ingress from boot sesl be commin fault.
Once gained access to the boot piston and electronics loom, clean down any rust from wiring loom and repair any corroded wires. Should sort you out mate.

Sounds like the switch in the tail gate latch needs adjusting because it does not close when the tail gate is closed.
