2003 OLds Alero Security Light

A couple of months ago my security light came on, later that day it went off. Then even later that day my car wouldn't start. Took it to the mech. said he cleared the security code that came up.

Now, a few months later........same senerio....

At the moment, I'm trying to clear the security by turning the key to ACC, waiting for the light to go out, turn it off and then back on.

How long will it take for the light to go off? The mech said I May need a new ignition switch.......is this true?

It takes 10 minutes for it to go out. it's not so much a problem with your ignition as it is with the Passlock 2 system. go to passlock2.com and should be able to find your solution there.

Security light is flashing. car will not start on my 2003 oldsmobile alero

I OWN a 2001 Olds Alero and the same thing happens to mine.. It's an easy fix..
1. Turn the Key to ACC (keep it in this mode for the entire 10 minutes).
2. The security light on the Dashboard will flash for exactly 10 minutes..
3. Once the 10 mins are over, the security light will stay solid..
Wait for the red light to disappear off the dashboard...
YOU ARE NOW READY TO TURN YOUR CAR OFF AND RESTART YOU CAR....

SIMPLE FIX..
I DO THIS ALL THE TIME TO MINE..

04 olds stopped running while i was driving

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

My 2003 oldsmobile alero cranks but will not start. I had a fuel pump put in 2 years ago, and the battery cables (new battery) is all in place. I replaced the upper O2 sensor a month ago. Sometimes the...

Try squirting starter fluid or ether into the carb. If it takes over you might have a blocked fuel filter. Then see if you have spark. Just pull the wire and connect to an old plug or get a tester. Make sure your hands are insulated. If you have spark then check timing. Could be the coil if there's no spark. Also could be a Passlock Sensor.

2004 Alero. Car turns over, but won't start. Security light blinks.

Hey jonce17....I had the same problem, and my Alero sat in my driveway for 2 days. I looked online for the solution, and I found out how to bypass the security. After it won't start and the security light is blinking, turn the ignition to the on position. Leave it there till the security light stops blinking and stays on (usually takes 9 to 10 minutes). Then turn ignition to off position and start it like normal. This happens to me about once every couple of months. Hope this helps....

I am having the same issue with my anti-theft device in my 2003 Alero. Last year it stopped running and would not turn-over. $400 later, Brakemax said they just had to reset the anti-theft device. oK,...

the shop that told you they ripped it out only ripped you off unless they removed some aftermarket alarm system i,m a gm mechanic and if you remove the factory anti-theft on a 2003 olds alero it will not run ever again until re-installed make sure your battery is charged good turn igntion switch to run position but do not try to start security light should be flashing let car sit with switch on and light flashing for ten minutes light should stop flashing now start your car this is how to reset anti-theft was that worth $400.00 and again why let a bussiness named brakemax look at a no start condition keep on and you will be BROKE to the max HOPE THIS HELPS AND STAY AWAY FROM THEM YOUR FRIEND @ HELPMAX
