It will be the one with the red battery cable going to it, also look at the battery posts, one side should have a positive sign (+) and the other should have a negative sign (-). If for some reason you battery is so messed up that it has no signs and someone rigged a different color cable to the positive, check the power from the battery with a volt meter. Just run the black lead from the volt meter to a clean metal area which will be your ground, and put the red lead from the volt meter to one post at a time on the battery. The one that shows current will be the positive terminal. Hope this helps.

It should have a + sign on it. Or, if it's in the car already, it will have a + sign, and the red cable will be hooked to it. The negative runs to the engine block, and the positive to the starter, or relay. Both are marked with a + or - sign molded into the battery body.

1988 FXRS IGNITION SWITH HAS 3 POLES: L B IG . BIKE HAS 3 WIRES: WHITE RED GREEN. WHERE DO WIRES GO ON POLES?

Red is from the battery, put it on the B, for battery post. Turn the switch on to the 1st position and touch the other wires, first the green, then the white, to the post that you have power to with the switch on, the IG is ignition that is power to the coil and the other is the starter solenoid. Touch the green wire to the hot switch post and you'll either crank the engine or turn the lights on. That's just to test which of the green and white are the ones that go on the IG post. and the other on the L post which is the starter solenoid.

Using the analogy of a battery as having positive and negative poles, what do we call the contrast between two poles of a neuron

A synapse?

Deborah, have a look on the following link:
two poles of neuron Google Search

... you posted the question in 'Cars and trucks'. To be perfectly honest, if the average mechanic can't eat it or remove it with a wrench .... the question can be ignored...

I purchased 2 new batteries and cannot figure out what wires they connect. the batteries each have a red and a black post but there are only 2 wires which is just enough for one battery. Please help.

hook one battery up
red- positive black the earth or negative

take the one that doesnt fit properly back for refund
are the battery poles different positions reversed or different sided of the two batteries

only need one battery for a passenger car
rule of thumb on car batteries
two if 4x4 with dual battery set up
if a hybrid
two or more for a truck depending on purpose

Where is the ground strap on a '99 Ford Escort?

The engine block should be ground. Check between the poles on the battery for 12 volts. Then check between the positive pole on battery and engine block for 12 volts. If you don't get 12 volts between positive pole and engine block you may need a new ground cable or all negative connector cleaned and tightened.

How to change a bettery on a 2002 ford focus

Look at your old battery and make note of the brackets installation and the terminal (positive and negative ) locations. Remove the positive cable, then the negative cable where they attach to the battery poles. POSITIVE cables are normally RED.....NEGATIVE cables are normally BLACK. Remove the battery hold down bracket making sure you do not place anything metal across the two battery poles. Install the new battery into the battery tray, attach the hold down brackets, the attach the negative cable end then the positive end. BE VERY CAREFUL and DO NOT GET BATTERY ACID on you or SHORT ACROSS the battery poles with any metalic object. If you have not done this before and are buying a new battery from an auto center....they will...most times.....install the battery for you free of charge

Which side is the positive and negative on starter

The casing on the starter is always the negative. One pole on the starter is for power and the smallest pole is for the ignition wire to link to, or it can be a plug on some cars and trucks. One of the larger poles will have a wire that goes into the starter that is not the pole that you should ever put the cable from the battery on it will be the pole that does not have a wire on it.

As seen in this pic terminal M has the wire that goes to the starter that should never have a wire atached to it from the battery. Terminal S is the ingition wire, and terminal B is the pole for the battery cable. The holes for the casing are the ground from the motor to the starter. I hope that this helps you.

On a battery for a 1994 BMW 530 Touring, where are the negative and positive poles located when battery is in place, under the rear seat?

Golden rule with batterys..

The Positive terminal is ALWAYS physically larger that the Negative.(ie larger battery post ) The Negative will be the EARTH connection ( bolted to car body and engine) There may be hard to see (-) or (+) on battery leads . Colours do not matter either as manufacturers vary on this !
Good Luck

Won't start

It is usually marked on the casing. +(or a red marker around the pole) is positive. If you havent removed the battery connect a bulb between one of the poles a piece of bare metal (ie engine). If the bulb lights up you're on the positive. If you have already removed the battery use a multimeter and measure voltage across the poles on the battery, if the meter gives a positive reading the red test lead is on the positve. If it gives a negative reading ie -12.35V(digital meter) the red is on negative. If you have an analogue meter(a meter using a needle) it will swing to the left when red lead is on neg.
