Re: How do you read the flashing check engine light codes...
Turn key on and off twice without starting engine. count flashes, their will be slight hesitation, make one digit after hesitation make second digit.(flashes 5 times hesitates flashes three times hesitates your code is 53) if it countiues to flash, its making second two digit code.

We have the same issue currently...very randomly...with our 2008 Caravan at the moment. Wife just got ...
you can take it to auto-zone and they will read for problem codes for free of charge. with an OBD-II scanner. to tell with area the problems in. good-day ! but check engine light has to stay on to read problem codes.
there are no codes that say replace O2 sensors,or remove converter,Thats just somebody's guessing,When it says O2 sensor that tells the mechanic to look for trouble in that area, wiring or faulty readings,And there are four O2 sensors.
HAVE SOMEONE EXTRACT THE CODE FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER. IF THERE IS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THEN THE PCM HAS A CODE STORED ON IT. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, BUT JUST CHECK THE CODE TO BE SURE. SOME OF THESE CAN ALSO HAVE A BAD IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO FIND THE PROBLEM. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED, THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK
Depending on where you are located, some auto parts chain stores will do a free code check and advise of the code description. Here in OH/PA area, Auto Zone will do it free. Also, with many Chrysler products you can do a self check by doing the following: starting in the off position, turn the key on, off, on, off, on (not turning completely on to engage the starter) in 5 seconds. Now watch the check engine light and it will start flashing. Count the flashes and write them down. There will be short pauses and long pauses. When you end with a '5' and a '5', that is the end. Group the numbers into 2 digits and those are the codes in the computer, and a starting point to tracking down the reason the light is on.
That is not a code, It is a GET ME CHECKED OUT SOON attention flash. If you hacve an AutoZone auto parts store in you r towm/area, go to them and ask them to put the code reader on the car. Then ask them to make a list of the codes and the definitions. Advice can be given better then. Hope this helps you along a bit.
Below are the possible causes for your engine light and error code:
Possible Causes:
EVAP fuel tank or canister vapor hoses leaking or damaged
EVAP system component leaking, fuel cap loose or missing
Leak detection pump damaged or leaking
The fuel cap is probably the most common cause of this problem. It's considered part of the emission system and if faulty or not place on the filler tube correctly, it will throw an error. Best of luck with your engine light issue. Take care! Greg
