Speedometer does ot work - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Blinking of the D light is a message for detected trouble in the transmission. The transmission needs badly the speed information for proper functioning. A faulty speed sensor / cable anywhere will cause the transmission to protect itself, and display a malfunction. If not mechanically inclined, take vehicle to shop and have them inspect the speed sensor / plug / wire that attaches to transmission bellhousing and the other connections associated with it.

You need seed sensor

dose the trans act up at the same time the speedo cuts out if soo you definatly have either an intermittent speed sensor problem of wiring in the speed sensor circuit. speen sensor is located on the extension housing of the transmission (2wd) ot back of transfer case (4x4)

Follow the speedometer cable from the firewall, down to the transmission. It should bolt in the transmission, remove the cable from the transmission, and turn the gear to check to see if speedometer is working, if not, it's most like the speedometer head unit.

i had the same problem, in behind the glove box there is a black cigarette sized box, this was faults on my 406 coupe and the speedo didn't owrk, or suddenly it shot from 0 while dribing up to 30 or what ever my speed was, it also wrecked my powersteering rack trying to drive it, as it made terrible noises as its speed sensitive. you local peugeot dealer will be able ot get you one. i can't remember how much it cost, sorry.

Not much info to go on, If your speedometer is not working it is more than likely a speed sensor. On the 96 it is located on the rear differential. It bolts in on the top of the hogs head, and only takes a single 10 mm bolt to hold it in. Before you replace it, take if off and clean it and try it. Sometimes the magnet gets too much wear particles on it to read the pulses. If that does not work , replace it before having to go to the computer or the cluster. 9 ot of 10 times it is just the speed sensor,.

Have somebody check for trouble codes.Look for possible speed sensor codes.The speed sensor is a input to both trans and abs.

It is either the speed sensor, the wireing in between ot the speedometer module it self. The sensor sends pulse train signal to the speedometer module and there it drives the speedometer and is divided in frequency by about 7 and feed to the computer and the cruise control. When the signal drops the Engine management computer thinks the speed is real slow and raises the transmission pressure.

In the one I had it was a cold solder jooint on the bacjk of the speedometer module itself but this was the divided output and the speedometer itself still worked. The easyest part would be the sensor that mounts on the rear axile I believe and should cost less than 30.00 dollars. If not that thebn it's the wiring or the speedometer module electronics..

your spindle in your transmission may bave been damaged from the twisting of the old cable.

May need ot get it replaced.
