SOURCE: bmw 325 window regulator with motor installation

chances are, the motor is fine. the regulators break all the time though. You can install it yourself with a little common knowledge. First obtain a new regulator for the respective door from your local dealer. To begin, remove the door panel. use a small screw driver to pry off the wood trim at the top portion of the door panel starting from the rear and moving forward. then pry out the small cover by the door pull as well as the 2 covers underneath the armrest. use a T-20 torx driver to remove the 5 hidden screws. then pry the door panel off of the door being careful not to ruin the clips or tug on the wiring. set the panel aside. now you will need to remove the side airbag (if applicable)using a 10mm socket. release the locking tab on the plug by prying it up approx. 1/4 inch, and then pull the plug out of its connector. be careful not to turn the key on with this unplugged or the airbag light will be tripped on. if you must , re install the plug so that the computer can "see" it. Now remove the vapor barrier using a razor blade. be careful not to rip it. once the inside of the door is exposed you should remove the 3 T-30 torxes on the window motor. then tilt the motor out of its bracket and remove it. you may have to pry at it depending on how tight the cable tension is. Now that the regulator is left in the door you have to remove it. lift the window by hand up in the door until you can see the two 8mm screws attaching it to the regulator through the 2 rectangular slots in the regulator arms. if the window is jammed down and will not move, use a pair of **** or wire cutters to cut the cable to free it up. now remove those 2 8mm screws and push the window back and up into the door where it goes when you roll it up all the way. now remove the 5 10mm screws holding the regulator to the door. install the new regulator into the door and bolt it in place. pull the window down and install the 2 8mm screws. re install the motor, vapor barrier, and airbag. then press the door panel back onto the door and bolt it back in, and finally install all of the covers.

SOURCE: 2004 vw conv. right rear window regulator

I have the same problem....the passenger rear demonstrated the same indications. Warranty just ran out a couple months ago. The drivers rear actuator was replaced about a year ago. I've seen other information on the net (unverified) that there is a 7 year replacement on these window actuators and I'd like to find a way to confirm (documentation from VoA rather than just verbal from a dealer). An streaming tutorial is available at <http://www.bentleypublishers.com/images/video/bentleyPubs.vw.nb.convertible.training.rearSideWindowRemoval.wmv>. It's pretty good at showing and telling how to remove the rear actuator. Since my 4 year warranty is up and if there is a 7 year on the actuator, it would probably only apply to the clip and I'd rather see it before the dealer in order to eliminate the dealer BSing me with some other part failing and then it not being covered. It's interesting to note that VWoA says that the clips on the 03 are the upgraded ones and so they can only tell the 02 and earlier owners with certainty that the clip is covered. I wouldn't be surprized if this is also BS.

Rear window on 2002 freelander stuck open

Left passenger rear side window is stuck in the down position; motor seems to work but cannot bring window to the up position to fully close. what is the cause and solution?

If the motor works then the window should move up, this sounds like the regulator may have broken, try to lift the glass by hand and see if it moves, if you are able to move the glass up then the regulator is bad but if the glass wont move then it would have to be the motor or the switches. you can try banging on the inside of the door while holding the switch in the up postion, this sometimes helps when a motor is going bad, good day.

Problem with the 2004 Land Rover FreeLander How to install a Freelander Window Regulator with cable loose not broken just off winder

Tools you will need:
1. Panel removal tool
2. Philips screw driver
3. 1/4 Ratchet with extension and 8 mm socket.
4. grease to lube new regulator. The first thing, is to remove the door panel:
1. Remove 2 screws securing hand rail to door.
2. Remove screw securing door handle escutcheon to door and remove the escutcheon.
3. Remove 4 screws securing pocket to door.
4. Carefully release 10 clips securing trim casing to door. (Best to use a door panel removal tool, the plastic clips break very easy)
5. Disconnect multi-plug from upper door speaker. Do the same for lower speaker
6. Remove trim panel from door.
7. Remove the plastic vapor barrier , care full not to destroy. (You may have to cut around some things such as the hand rail brackets.)
At this point you will be able to see the regulator and motor through the small holes in the door. At this stage a small flash light is very handy
to see such things as the power connector for the window motor.

1. Loosen the two bolts in the slotted holes, shown above.
2. Remove the remaining 4 bolts securing regulator assembly to door.
3. Lower glass and loosen the 2 bolts securing door glass to regulator. Then slide the channel bar forward to remove.
4. Disconnect the power from the window motor.
5. lift the window and secure in the up position ( I used Duct tape).
6. Collapse all the arms and maneuver the old regulator out the center hole in door. Assembly is basically the reverse of the removal procedures:
1. take the two screws that you partially removed out of the old regulator and install them partially install them into the new regulator.
2. Work the new regulator through the center hole.
3. Connect the power to the regulator motor.
4. Lower the window glass, take the channel that secures the glass to the regulator, insert it over the tow bolts that were loosened in step 2 above
5. Raise the window and secure.
6. Insert the 2 bolts on regulator through the keyed holes in the door and finger tighten.
7. line up the rest of the bolt holes and install the remaining two bolts in both the regulator and then tighten two bolts in step 6 above
8. install the two in the bottom channel.
9. Now is a good time to test..........
Then all that is left to install the hook up the speaker(s) and mount the door panel.
1. Position trim panel close to the door and connect door speaker(s) multi-plug(s).
2. Secure door panel to door with clips.
3. insert escutcheon to door handle and secure with screw.
4. Secure hand rail to door with two screws.noranda21_0.jpg
5. Fit pocket to door and secure with four screws."
