I have a Mercedes Sprinter 313i (2004), a couple of times lateley, during hot weather I had the airconditioning on, the van increased in temperature, the EDC light comes on and the van completely stops. I have to wait for around 15 minutes for the van to cool a bit before I can start her up again. I have checked on all previous service invoices and saw that the fuel filter has never been replaced. Do you think this could be causing this problem? It seemed to make a thumping noise under the rocket cover. Kind Regards Shane Beatty - [email protected]
Given the age of the vehicle, I would definitely have the in-line filter changed. As per your increase in the temp, you could have a bad thermostat and it could be stuck wide open or worse, could be frozen closed. I would also have the temperature sensor for the radiator replaced. It could be causing your issue. If you've had the A\C recharged recently, you could have a stopped up condenser\evaporator.
Bottom line is your vehicle is 17 years old and I would suspect a bad sensor before trying to put a whole bunch of money into it. This would mean you would have to either have it serviced or, if you are able to do the work yourself, buy the part and replace it.
Hope this helps

HAS THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH CONTROL MODULE BEEN REPLACED? ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE CLOSING COIL OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC CLUTCH GOES OPEN IN HOT WEATHER, HAS THAT BEEN REPLACED.

Not a solution, but I have pretty much the same situation now. My 89 300E takes a notion not to start and the battery runs down quickly. Have to jump start it when it sputters and dies at stop signs. While trying to start it, and I let it crank for a few seconds, when I turn the key to left but leave it in on position, the car acts and sounds like it wants to start and actually runs for a second, then dies off. But the "running" is very feint like it is hitting on one cylinder. I am beside myself and my mechanic thought the low battery made the computer mess up. After I do get it started, it runs perfectly. I think it passed away forever this time.
