Car died when driving it now wont start at car

Nissan maxima does have a chain and if the cover has broken it will be an expensive repair
items of concern are the chain, the cover, the sprockets for the cams and crank, the adjuster and the guide and valves ( it is not listed as an intereference engine but prudence suggests to expect bent valves)
I seriously suggest that you by pass the local garage and seek assistance form an accredited service shop that has experience in your make of vehicle as it is not a simple change the chain job.
get quotes first as the expenses can be double because of the extra damage incurred

Sounds like a Timing Chain or Gear broke.

do you know for suir that the belt or chain snapped and was it after you were told it snapped that you got all this work done on the car ???

the timing may now be out as engine moved after the pulley had broke , have the timing checked, if it's turning over very fast the timing belt may have broken so the starter isn't turning anything !

pull distributor cap off and turn it over make sure button is moving if not then the timing chain broke, if so then maybe timing jumped a few degrees

CHECK YOUR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR....I REPLACE MY STARTER STAURDAY BECAUSE MY CAR STARTED BUT WON'T STAY STARTED BROUGHT A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND STILL NOTHING THE WHOLE TIME MY MAF(MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR) HAD MALFUNCTION MIND YOU MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON.

well the plastic piece are from the timing chain guides are either broken or ripped off,and the metal rattling was probably the timing chain,,i think the timing chain jmped or broke and broke the guides,if thats the car you most likely bent the valves in the head,,,i would remove the cam cover and the timing chain cover and see what you got,you may need a engine
