Trying to remove the water pump on my Dodge 1500 Club cab 4X4. Unable to losen the main nut behind the fan and fan clutch. Any suggestions? Have a manual but poor description and pictures don't help. I have tried to follow what manual says but no luck.

I've never worked on this sort of vehicle but when I replaced my water pump in another, I had to losen the Alternator to get the belt off since it went to both. You'll need to get a manual on your vehicle from an auto parts store. THere should be directions in that about how to replace your water pump.
That is about a 36 mm wrench, which is close to
1 7/16".
You will have to borrow one, then use a long pry bar to hold the
nuts on the pulley to pump,so it won't turn
remove then neg battery terminal. remove the serpitine belt. remove the fan clutch assembly. remove the fan shroud. remove the altinater and a.c pump. remove the alt and a/c pump bracket. remove the heater hose and inlet pipe. remove the intake manifold cooling hose. remove the lower radiator hose from the pump. finally unbolt the pump and remove. be sure and drain the coolant first. hope this helps
just remove the nuts on the back side of the hub. the hub will still be firmly in place. you will have to beat either the hub itself or on the bolts from the back to get it loose. they are usually in there pretty tight, so it will take quite a bit of force to get it loose.
Remember, fan has a reverse thread. Righty-tightey, lefty-loosey does not apply. You need a clutch fan wrench. (available at your local auto parts store.)
Before you remove the serp belt, loosen the clutch fan bolts from the water pump. Other wise you will be fighting with them later. Other wise just drain the coolant and remove the pump. I would suggest a new thermostat since the coolant is drained. Make sure the block surface is cleaned of all gasket material and other dirt before installing your new pump. I usually scrape the area with a putty knife and wipe it down with some brake clean on a rag.
