Slowly turn the steering wheel from maximum left to maximum right turn. Keep doing this several times with the engine running to purge the air from the system. Keep the P/S fluid filled while doing this.

You can use any fluid marked as power steering fluid. (not transmission fluid) Use dot3 brake fluid in brake systems. Don't use synthetics in brake systems unless system has been completely disassembled and cleaned. For better service life, remove brake fluid from reservoir with a turkey baster once a year and refill with new fluid (no bleeding required) You can also drain power steering and re-fill every two years by removing return line to pump, allowing it to drain, then re-connecting and re-filling. Nothing lasts forever, but this helps it last a lot longer.

Removal NOTICE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.
Using a suitable suction device, remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
With the engine cold, loosen the steering reservoir filler cap to allow air into tank. Take the lowest fitting loose and let it drain into a bucket under the vehicle. When finished draining remove Line fitting at reservoir. Remove any brackets holding the line in place and remove line from vehicle. Take the line to automotive supply and buy proper replacement using old line to verify fit. Purchase enough recommended power steering fluid to replace what drained into bucket. Install new line in reverse of removal steps making sure seals (washers and/or "O" rings) are properly installed. Dispose of old fluid safely.
To fill reservoir and line: While filling reservoir with engine running turn steering wheel from left to right until wheel stops. Continue filling and turning until all air is out of system and reservoir is at the proper fill level. Check for leaks.
Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
Remove the accessory drive belt. The belt does not have to be removed from the engine.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Disconnect the wiring harness connector to the oxygen sensor which is accessible through the oxygen sensor wiring harness grommet in the vehicle floor pan.
Remove the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold and remove all exhaust system hangers and isolators from the exhaust system brackets. Move exhaust system out of the way as far rearward and to the left as possible to provide access to the power steering pump.
Place a drain pan under the power steering pump. Remove the power steering fluid return line hose on the front suspension cradle. Allow the fluid to drain from the pump and hose.
Remove the accessory drive belt splash shield.
Disconnect the power steering remote reservoir supply hose from the fitting on the power steering pump. Allow fluid to drain from the hose.
Remove power steering fluid pressure line from the power steering pump and drain any excess power steering fluid.
Remove the power steering fluid return hose from the power steering pump.
Remove the rear support bracket mounted behind the power steering pump to the engine block.
Remove the 2 mounting bolts that secure the pump to the alternator/power steering pump and belt tensioner mounting bracket.
Remove the power steering pump and pulley assembly out from the vehicle. Transfer all required parts from the pump to the new replacement pump before installation.
To install:
Position the front of the power steering pump up onto the mounting bracket. Torque the 2 power steering pump-to-mounting bracket bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
Install the rear power steering pump-to-engine block support bracket. Torque the 2 support bracket mounting bolts to 40ft. lbs. (54 Nm). Install the nut to the mounting stud behind the pump and torque to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
Install the high pressure fluid line to the pump output fitting. Torque the high pressure line-to-power steering pump fitting to 275 inch lbs. (31 Nm). Be sure to inspect the pressure line O-ring for any damage before connecting the pressure line to the steering pump.
Install the low pressure power steering fluid hose to the power steering pump low pressure fitting. Be sure the hose clamps are properly reinstalled and hoses are clear of the accessory drive belts.
Install the accessory drive belt.
Install the hose on the power steering fluid return line on the front suspension cradle. Be sure the hose clamps and heat shield tubes are correctly reinstalled.
Reconnect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Install the hangers and isolators onto the exhaust system brackets. torque the nuts and bolts to 250 inch lbs. (28 Nm).
Reconnect the wiring harness connectors to the oxygen sensor. Install the wiring harness grommet into the vehicle floor pan.
Install the accessory drive belt splash shield.
Remove the drain pan and lower the vehicle.
Refill the power steering pump reservoir with the correct amount of clean power steering fluid.
Reconnect the negative battery cable. Bleed the power steering system.
Run the engine and check the system for leaks and proper steering operation.
3.3L (VIN R) & 3.8L (VIN L) Engines

Remove and isolate the negative battery cable.

NOTE: If a new power steering pump is to be installed, the unions that are supplied fitted to the pump should be removed and saved for future use. Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal.
Push the new O-ring seal onto the special tool.
Locate the tool over the union and ease the O-ring seal onto the union.
Hi, this is a step by step guide that will help you within your replacement of this device.
Step1 Loosen the drive belt and slip the belt over the pulley. Use a suction gun to **** out as much power steering fluid as possible. Place a drain pan under the pump and disconnect the lines and fluid return hose. You may need to remove the air cleaner housing to access the return hose. Allow everything to drain completely. Step2 Cap the ends of all the lines to prevent leakage. Remove the mounting fasteners and detach the pump from the engine. You should be able to pull it free from the car completely and take a moment to inspect it and see what went wrong. You could then prevent the demise of the new power steering pump by addressing the source of the problem. Step3 Measure how far the pump shaft protrudes from the face of the pulley hub, if it is necessary to remove the pulley to access the pump, as is the case with some engines. This assembly will need to be reinstalled to the correct positioning after the new pump is installed. Step4 Install the new pump using the reverse removal procedure and make sure all fasteners are tightened securely. Also, take a moment to bleed the power steering system according to the directions in your repair manual. For specific instructions on the reassembly of some items during this process, consult your repair manual as each engine has its own specifications.
