Start by flushing your coolant system, then refill with a quality coolant.
Run up to temperature and check again for level (when cool again)

Check that the radiator is getting really hot quite suddenly when running from cold, as this is the best way of checking thermostat operation.
When over a set temperature (check your manual) the fan should come on.
If it never does - troubleshoot the fan (temperature switch or sensor first, then fan on direct feed to see if it powers up ok)

Is the water pump out on my 1997 murcury cougar if it cranks then falls dead by the time I get to the redlight

You mean fuel pump ?
Its possible the pump is weak enough to start but not stay running.
It could be something electrical too, such as a relay.

How do i begin to change my autotransmission oil and clean the oil filter? for starters.

bubbles is over filled or wrong fuild used.
do not guess at level check methods, read the operators guide for car, it answers that on all cars made, and matches which trans you have , some car have 3 transmission choices day one, sales
rule 2, never use the wrong fluid. this means guessing is a travesty to your wallet and to the transmission.
the holes mean levels proper hot and cold.
10 quarts of AFT expands by 1 quart (1 liter) that is why its got 2 marks, most have 4, 2 for low (H/C) and 2 for high mark H/C

vary savvy using reverse.
id never drive any car,, with foaming ATF, or burn up the box.
go to a shop and get a full trans service,
new AFT and new filter.
using the correct AFT , not guessing.
this is a uSA forum and our dealers are dead. here. 2004.
so we use alldata.com and log in
and read the transmission page. and behold , facts.
right ATF and how to check levels hot.
and to not overfill it.

1999 astro/4.3L/starts cold /runs 10-15 min. then dies will not start hot new battery.new coil/clean filter/pump 2 yrs old installed new/battery shows 14 amps when running/ won t crank when hot either/...

car shuts off when it gets to normal operating range. it takes 10-15 minutes to reach normal range. causes: low coolant, failing coolant tempurature sensor, air in water pump, check the coolant temp. sensor. if it is bad it will send wrong info to engine when hot, and shut it down. ITS WORTH A TRY!! good-day!

Car stalls while driving. Will start after about five minutes. Is not flooded. Doesn't usually do this until after it has been driven a bit. Does it more in warm weather. Check engine light sometimes...

I'd have fuel pressure tested. I had a 95' did same thing. Cold winter day, worked fine, as soon as it got warmer, or hot out, it would quit, and re-start 20 minutes later and go for a distance then die again. If I parked in the shade on a hot day, I'd get further before it quit for the first time. I started carrying a fuel pressure gauge with me. Cool in the morning my fuel pressure was up to spec @ 49-50psi. Once it got warm/hot out and it died, Hooked up gauge and it was at 2-5psi. Let it sit and cool off 20-30 minutes, pressure would jump back up and run good until fuel pump got hot again and then pressure dropped off and car quit. It sure sounds like the fuel pump, but the hard part will be getting the car to the shop at the right time, or they will need to let it run on the lot until it quits to confirm the pressure drop. One thing you can try is when car quits, have a can of WD-40 or quick start with you and a screwdriver. Loosen the clamp on the air intake hose where it connects to the front of the throttle body and pull it off. With vehicle off, turn throttle linkage so the plate opens up enough to spray WD-40 a second or 2 in the throttle body. Then try to start it. If it starts and runs momentarily, then you can be pretty sure it's fuel related and my guess is the pump needs replacement.

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. There is an access panel in the floor of the car to get to the pump.

Check for water entry into vehicle, may be getting into engine control unit. Engine C/U located behind glove box on right hand drive vehicles so if water entry is the problem then the windscreen seal is the most likely point of entry.

1991 Mazda 626 DX dies suddenly after running for 10 minutes.

Hello, It sounds like an engine ignition control module gone out or a coil. They get hot and quit working after a short period of time, cool off then work again till they get hot.
Is the ignition system pointless electronic or does it have points? Are you getting any fire at all now to the cylinders? Does the tach in the vehicle show any RPM's during cranking? Do you have voltage at the positive side of the ignition coil? Does the coil meet the ohm ratings for that years vehicle ignition? Does the vehicle have oil in it so the oil pressure sensor allows the engine to run, this may not be an option on your particular vehicle? You can check most of this out with a volt/ohm meter. Check your voltages before starting the vehicle, during running and after it quits to see where the loss is. Just don't get near the center tap of the coil or you will get a rude awakening and/or serious injury. Good luck, RAC
