Hard to say..
The best wat to tell is take the inside door panel off to see what is going on.
Could be a brace snapped and the window fell off the track.. Or a part of the linkage broke..

On the plastic cover take a small screw driver and pry one of the open ends, in other words if you look at the cover carefully it is shaped like a U, pry on the top right side of the U to un-snap then rotate or twist the cover to remove.Then you can get to the screws that hold it into place/
Obviously in both cases some part of the steering linkage broke off (steering shaft, pitman arm, idler arm, tie rod or tie rod end... etc... Could be a number of things, depending on the location of the broken part) In the second case (still had steering for 2 days), that was just a streak of luck and the broken part stayed in place just enough one way or another for a few more days.
