The fact that the light comes on is a good indication that the electronics are working, the most common problem is a vacumn leak. This can be a damaged or cracked vacumn line, a bad check valve, or the dump switch on the brake pedal
Hi. Sorry but the question isn't clear. I know that the cruise control can be repaired. But what type of diagnostic information are you looking for? To find the source of the failure my shop would run diagnostics. Possible failures would include faulty blake light switch, worn or dirty cruise control switch, broken clock spring or issue with power or ground. Please write back and let me know what you are looking for. I will be more than happy to help.
Try checking the small switch at the top of the brake pedal. There may be two one for brake lights and one for the cruise control. To ascertain what is what, pull one wire off and see if brake lights work. If not, then the other switch controls the cruise control disconnect and engage..I you have a DC test light check to see if power is on on both side of the switch with brake pedal up. If so, depress pedal and check power on the other side there should be none, if there is the switch is defective.
The best suggestion would be that the cruise control needs replaced. The problem could be in your column but this is rare. Cruise controls can only take so much abuse and many people are unaware of the abuse they give. Constant on and off or accelerating manually while cruise control is on can burn up your cruise control.
check brake switch under dash above the brake pedal. See if sensing wires are broken . or if it uses a duplicate switch sensor check it is engaging properly. Also check you tube on possible failures.
Also in the engine bay the cable from the accelerator petal will attach to the trottle on the engine. Check for another cable at this location from the cruise control and check the cable is not broken .
Check brake globes are functioning and are not blown as well.
The tip that connects the accelerator cable to your throttle for the cruise control may be broken. I have had that problem before. The light won't come on cause your cruise isn't engaged
