Have the fuel filter changed, then if this does not help, have the fuel pump pressure checked, and check for fuel contamination, fuel additives might help, heet, for moister, and lucas fuel treatment for contamination, and fuel cleaning, for the injectors. These are the best on the market.

If anyone else happens upon this thread, the fuel pump is in the tank. Your best bet is to check your coils, Ford made ridiculously thin walls between the primary and secondary coil windings, if it gets bad enough they will short out to the point where it will blow the fuse for it and you will get no power to the ecm. Another easily overlooked thing I've experienced, when the grossly underpowered battery starts to fail, it can create the same symptoms.

I have an '87 Olds Calais 3 liter engine that idles rough, hesitates on acceleration, and just recently stalls and won't start.

Karl, have you confirmed good fuel pressure? It sounds like a weak fuel pump to me. Is your Check Engine light on? If so what are the codes in the computer?

Replaced plugs and coil pack on 2001 ford taurus now car will not start

You will need to figure out if you have spark to the plugs, and if not- if you have voltage to the coil to proceed.

2003 ford f 150 4.6 v8 and the idle went from smooth to rough also sputters and sluggish while driving check engine light is flashing.

have the vehicle scanned for error codes at autozone, its free. Post codes for more help....These engines have issues with the COPs (ignition coils-over-plugs) failing prior to 80k miles. When they fail typical problems are: Sputtering under load/acceleration, rough idle, random misfires, random stalling, light or heavy jerking under load (usually at 15-35mph and 45-65mph)..hopefully this helps!!

Stalling issues

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
