I brought my 2002 Explorer in to the dealership for a standard oil change & cruise control recall fix. I was informed that the motor and regulator for all windows had to be replaced. Are there any warning signs before the motor goes out? I'm skeptical that there was a problem before the dealership began working on the recall issue. Thank you.

Look what I found....Initial Recall: September 7, 2005: Ford Motor Company announced a massive safety recall on 1994-2002 vehicles to correct a problem that could cause the cruise control deactivation switch to overheat and create an underhood fire.

That is a recall. Take it to your dealership and they will perform it for free. It has to do with your cruise control.

yes speed control is ith cruise control.

If the cruise lamp comes on and the cruise does not set i would advise inspecting the cruise cable and make certain it is not broken, if ok the the servo has likely failed.

There is an additional recall for the cruise control. The original recall added a fuse to prevent fires.

The new recall is about fixing a half dozen problems which include the transmission and brake lights and false dash warnings. It involves 16 million assorted years and models. It would certainly be a good idea to contact the dealer about your problem. The recall is free.

The problem is trhe clock-spring rotoating contact under the steering wheel, does the horn work?

check the brake pedal switch. if older possibly a recall
