Find out the Code that put the check engine light on first before worrying about the timing belt.A parts house may preform the scan for free. Then you will know how to proceed.

IF YOU DONT SEE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.CAR SURGING AND JUMPING COULD BE FAULTY FUEL PUMP OR BAD TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 53 - 63 PSI.IF SEE CHECK ENGINE ON.CODE SCAN FOR A FAULT CODE.
The computer will not allow the car to full rev in park to protect the engine. Likewise there is a rev limiter when in drive which will shut down injectors at high engine speeds usually around 5000 RPM or so.
the lightning bolt was your alternator symbol your computer needs what they call flashed ie: reprogrammed take to the dealer most shops cant do this.it may never happen again if it does then have it done thanks please rate this answer.
the red light means power limited. the yellow ESP light is part of the traction control system.. if you were on slippery ground its a normal thing to happen if the tires spin
