Replace the whole axle. You can get rebuilt axles for around $50. Then you have everything new.

Yes. That would be the inner cv joint but the entire cv shaft should be replaced. The labor is the same if you are just replacing a boot, so most all cv joints are serviced this way now. The shaft generally costs under $100 and may take a couple hours to replace. There is a seal that should also be replaced at the same time. Left and right sides are different.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Halfshaft from the vehicle
    • Snapring and bearing
    • Snapring and oil seal
    • Mounting bracket
    • CV-joint boot
    • Circlip and inner joint housing
    • Snapring and spacer
    • Inner joint balls
    • Snapring and inner CV-joint
    • To install:
    • Install or connect the following:
      • Inner CV-joint and snapring
      • Inner joint balls
      • Spacer and snapring
      • Inner joint housing and circlip. Add 150 grams CV-joint grease.
      • CV-joint boot
      • Mounting bracket
      • Oil seal and snapring
      • Bearing and snapring
    • Install the halfshaft and mounting bracket to the vehicle.
    • Check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.

hold the dealers feet to the fire-take it back and have them fix it- they should do this for no charge-if there's still a problem get ahold of vw and tell them what their dealer ship is like-a factory rep will be your friend- cheers Denny

How difficult is it to replace a clutch on a 2004 vw beetle

Not easy for your backyard meachnic. Once you remove the driver side tire, hub, cv joint, etc. You are able to remove transmission and pull clutch out. Maybe about 6 hours of work. Hope this helps...it will save you ALOT of money

go to the advanced auto parts store and purchase the Haynes manual for the car and it will tell you how to change everything on there.
