5000 is too long in between oil changes for that vehicle. Change it every 3000

Loosing 1/2 quart of oil a week, advice? Dodge Grand Caravan 2005 @ 67000 miles.

1st check for oil leaks, if none, then check the pcv valve [ positive crankcase valve ] , should be located on top or rear of engine, with a vaccum hose connected to it.

Burning 1 qt oil 2007 grand caravan sxt per 1000 miles. changed pcv vale still happenung

Is it really burning it, or just losing it? If you have blue smoke coming out your tail pipe, and oily black spark plugs, there's really not a whole lot you can do about it short of a rebuild of your engine. It really sounds like a rear main seal leak, or a faulty oil filter.

Van used 2.5 quarts of oil in 1200miles no sign of oil burning or blue smoke at tail pipe. oil light comes on frequently 2004 dodge caravan

If there is no sign of oil consumption, then you have a leak some where. Un-noticed leaks are usually found at the rear main seal and leak as you are driving. If you crawl under the vehicle and closely inspect the area where the engine block meets the transmission you may find evidence of an oil leak.

It is normal to use over a quart of oil before oil change

My 1993 voyager is like that. It may burn some , it definitely leaks some , and it could be just sending some through the PCV valve. Oil leaks and burning oil causes pollution . If you can fix it with a new seal or a valve cover gasket it is easier than constantly checking your oil. Temperature, trailering, speed, outdoor temperature, and engine RPM all can be factors if you are losing oil. If your engine is a quart down, the engine oil consumption rate doubles or triples. In other words the lower the oil level the faster it disappears. High mile cars will drive for years as long as you add oil when it is needed (keep the oil level between the marks). Fix any obvious leaks. Then determine your oil change interval (3000 miles, 4000 miles, 5000 miles). I change between 4000 and 5000 miles. If i am a quart low at 3500 I add a quart. If I am a quart low at 4500 miles I just change the oil in the car. A good practice is to carry a quart of oil in your vehicle just in case you need it. It is far cheaper to add a quart when needed than to go to the dealer once to maybe fix a problem that they may not be able to find or fix. Older engines (even some newer ones) just use oil , especially in hotter climates. Fix the obvious and carry a quart.

My inlaws have a 2007 town&country and it is using 4 quarts in 5000 miles this has happened between the last 3 oil changes it has 65,247 miles on it now. When they bought it used they ran it almost...

Four quarts on 5000 miles is quite a lot. You should see white smoke from burning oil. If not then it's leaking out. After a trip top off the oil and place a sheet of cardboard under the van when parked overnight or longer. Then check the cardboard if there is oil on it it's leaking either from the drain plug or oil filter. Regardless always check your oil level and do not run it if it is low by any means. Also a visual check with a good light source should be done too. Feel the drain plug area and oil filter area for wet dripping oil. Be careful and don't do this when hot.
Good luck and I hope this helps

I purchased an 07 Grand Caravan on June 24, 2010 with 48,000 miles on it. My mother borrowed the car on July 9th. When I checked all of the fluids, there was no oil in the engine, and no lights were on. I...

You should never buy any van type vehicle, in the first place,
the transaxle will fail any day.
I used to own a trans repair shop

Other then sell it,I would,I won't ride in one, not safe

Your correct, you should go 5000 miles and maybe use a 1/2 qt,
on most vehicles, none.

So you do a cylinder leak down test
Check Emission Gas Readings,to see what that shows
I suspect a broken oil ring, scored cylinder, broken piston
skirt or serious cylinder head issues.

Never go to a dealer. Calling or Visiting is okey

My 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan is using a lot of oil...maybe a quart every 1000 miles. I have no oil slick in the driveway and don't notice any white smoke from the exhaust. Any ideas where it could be...

You are most likely burning it. There is much less smoke produced these days, with the cat. converter.

A wear area on yoru vehicle is valve stem seals, when they go, oil is actually pumped out...

Also, consider a high mileage blend oil, like casteroil. I am not into mechaninc in a can, but this stuff lowers consumption and is semi synthetic...

You can reaseal the valve stems, but I wonder about guide looseness, and fairly rapid seal failure again...Still, you can get it going and sell the vehicle....

that is not excessive oil consumption, 10,000 KM is about 6,400 miles, 1.5 Liters is about 1.1 quarts, this is excellent, my brand new Dodge Magnum uses more oil than this.
