There are two different types of calipers used on 01 Beetles.
The first which does not have a detachable caliper bracket is easiest and is as follows:
Remove front wheels
Unbolt calipers from integrated spindle/bracket with proper allen bit and lift calipers and pads and support them.
Remove set screw holding rotor to hub. You may need an impact screwdriver as these seize up with age.
Slide rotor off hub.

The second has a separate detachable bracket that wraps around the rotor.
Remove the front wheels
Remove two caliper bracket bolts holding bracket, caliper and pads onto rotor as a unit.
Some vehicles have a standard bolt in this position, some have a VW special star bolt, so inspect to see if you are equipped to remove these. If you have the star bolts and do not have the proper tool, you need to get it... attempting to use the wrong tool will not end well.
Use a philips screwdriver to remove the set screw holding the rotor to the hub. You may need an impact screwdriver as these screws seize up with age.
Slide rotor off the hub.

This is a not a hard job. Jack it up one wheel at the time remove the tire/wheel assy. You will have to remove the brake caliper assy. and the rotor will come off now with a slight hammer tap. No bearings or grease packing, just a ready to install rotor is all you need with your new pads to do a first rate brake job. Please be careful, Use a jack stand and tire chalks to keep the car from falling/rolling.

When I turn my lights on my tail lights work but when I hit my brakes the don't light up I have a 2001 vw beetle????

the brake lights don't light up or the taillights don't light up? the brake lights are brighter than the tailights so the tailights won't show up whenbrakes are applied. if no lights work when brakes are applied then check for a bad ground at the light assembly.

Will the abs system in a 2001 vw beetle cause my brakes to grind, I have had my brakes done and rotors replaced and have been back to the mechanic Four times, they checked them yet again and the rotors had...

Its very possible that the ABS system malfucntioning could cause extra/excessive wear on the rotors and/or brake pads. Has your ABS light came on on the instrument cluster? If so, does it stay on or blink? (Should come on with key in the on position then go off after cranking the car) It would be worth looking into I suppose...

How to change the brake pads

Remove the tire and then the caliper. Brake pads on the VW Beetle are relatively easy to change, and are done so in the same manner as an american car. I'd also recommend that you buy new rotors since they are not all that expensive. Not changing the rotors (or having them resurfaced) will lead to squeaky brakes. The cost to resurface will be more than half the cost of new rotors, and new rotors will make the job easier & quicker.

Your front brake pads are almost to it's wear limit and it's simply telling you to have it serviced. The pads have wear limit sensor.

Could be brake fluid, so look at the brake fluid resevoir.
Could also be water from the evaporator, from the air conditioner.
Is it oily to the touch?

2001 VW Beetle. The driver's front seat adjuster

I'm assuming you have manual adjustment seats. There is a spring underneath the seat that locks the end of the lever into corresponding notches in the seat frame rail. That spring has either fallen off or broken.
