I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab 4x4. I had the trans rebuilt about a year ago.I driving and the trans quit on me it is making a wining noise from the trans and it acts like its in neutral all the time some times it will kick in and move a few feet and then quit again and start wining again. PLEASE HELP??? THANK YOU in advance.

Ensure that you are in Neutral when you try to get the transfer case out of 4LOW. That is the only way to ensure that it will transfer out of LOW properly.

how does the trans fluid look?at proper level?it sounds like the front pump in trans is starving for fluid..filter may be plugged..does it shift ok?any fault codes?i would check these things and probably drop trans pan to see if any debris/dirt/metal in pan indicating an internal problem..i hope this helps

according to the owners amnual the max towing weight for a 1999 ram 1500 quad cab wit automatic transmission is 7600 lb.
with either 5.2 or 5.9 v8. for a reg cab it is 8000 lb.

there is a safty device under the dash (which you have to take the whole dash apart to get to it) its a electronic switch youll have to replace (dealer item only)

does the check engine flash while driving, a quick test, cause I suspect the coil pack, when dark open the hood start the truck and with a water bottle spray the coil pack if you see sparks replace it, change many of those here ....

My father had this problem on a car years ago and I have see others have it also . The poping noise is often for a ball joint and then the wheel just falls off. Have the ball joints inspected for excessive wear 

i had the same problem with my 98 dodge durango it has the same 12 bolt rear end and what i had to do is change all my bearings

remove the unit and check your wiring harness dodge uses a two part factory harness if the plug with all the speaker outputs came undone it would still turn on and function normal but you'd have no sound.
