Our remote wouldn't unlock car so we used the key, however, it set the alarm off. We couldn't get alarm to shut off and car wouldn't start. Remote would not lock or unlock doors or shut off alarm. Solution: put key in ignition and turn to ACC push the unlock button on remote while key is in the ignition......then turn off get out lock and unlock the door using remote....it worked for us Good Luck!

With alarm activated your ignition is disabled.Find the combination to disable it.With GM's you hold opposing buttons on the fob till it beeps twice. The dealer should help for no charge.

SOURCE: 01 tiburon, alarm reset? wont start

I had the same problem because I store my car in the garage in the winter. I found that replacing the positive/negative cables with new ones and also if you still have your spare key, try putting one key in the ignition and turn to acc before turning it over click your alarm button on your spare set of keys and the alarm should reset itself and the car should start. i hope this helps you, i just finished changing my spark plug wires because I had a code P302 which made my 2nd cylinder misfire, so if your tiburon is around 180,000 km then you should change it too, I recommend Bosch they are the best.
take care

SOURCE: I changed the car battery

Have you tried using key to lock and unlock drivers door, or passenger door ? Works on some vehicles not 100% sure on that one.

assuming you say that the engine turns over but wont start,1st make sure you have good batteries in the remote then sit in car with key in ignition turned on,press/hold the alarm button on the remote, get back to me if this doesnt work (with both remotes).

My 2004 Tiburon GT will not unlock with the remote. When I use my key in the door my anti-theft goes off and I cannot start my car. I have replaced the remote battery and disconnected the battery terminals...

you can get it to crank but you just won't be able to use the keyless function without going back to the dealer first locate the ecu fuse in the fusebox under the dash, pull it out but don't put it down. Next put your key in the ignition and start turning over the motor, now the car won't crank or push oil through the motor with the ecu deactivated so don't hold it for too long. Now as your turning the motor over, reinsert the ecu fuse. The car will fire to life...you will have essentially reflashed your ecu so people with tuned ecu's beware. Your keyless won't work but hey at least now you can drive to get it fixed...as for the naysayers, yes I tried this on my tiburon and it still works fine so don't worry...good luck

2000 Hyundai Tiburon will not start

There is NO possible electrical cause (within REASON) which would create the problem you describe. I assume you tried the Keyless Entry Remote to DIS-ARM the anti-theft system. If the ALARM system was activated, it will stay activated until it's de-activated by the remote (typical design feature). The best SOLUTION is to take vehicle into Hyundai an have the problem diagnosed.
