My 4runner is getting bad gas mileage and won't pull a rolling hill without revving up to 4k. Normally it will hold 70-75 up a rolling hill around 3k. It even felt like it was backing down a knoctch and then hitting the high passing gear and reving high to keep it at 75mph. any suggestions?

It could be a number of things. My recommendations are as follows:
-bad gas (run some bottles of lucas and injector cleaner thru)
-change air filter
-change fuel filter
-clean MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner ONLY
-check MAF sensor voltage readings as per service manual
-Re-calibrate throttle position sensor. They tend to need this around 120-150k miles
-check vacuum level
-check cylinder compression
-Depending on mileage and if there are any codes, replace O2 sensors with Denso only sensors
-Not likely, but the cat could be restricted too

My '01 was doing the exact same thing, and it turned out to be the MAF was dirty- and the fix took about 2minutes and ran me ~$5 for a can of MAF cleaner.

Hope this helps,
C

I have a 1991 toyota 4runner V6 4wd. Lately driving my toyota 4runner around its been kinda guttless and its getting horrible gas mileage, like below 8 mpg! this is not good, my truck is running kindof...

Have you tried changing both of the fuel filters? If they are clogged your power will go down and your gas mileage will go down. I'm not sure about the smell of gas, but new fuel filters really helped mine.

Mazda burns gas fast, what would cause gas consumption quickly? Tire pressure is fine, tires are new. I seem to fuelling every 2-3 days. In advance I thank you for all the help.

Without asking for a clarification on exactly on how your mileage has deteriorated...

Seems like a fairly drastic decrease in mileage, so:

Give the vehicle a tune-up, or at the very least..go over all the usual components involved in a tune-up to see which are ok and which maybe not.

Air filter, sparkplugs, wires, etc..and everyone forgets to change their pvc valve. Do that.

Test the vehicles "free-roll ability".

Next time u are on a hill , shift the vehicle into N.

Does it feel like something is holding the vehicle back on the free roll?

Could be one of your brake components hasn't fully released, i.e: the parking brake may be in the full release position, but mechanically not fully released..or a caliper or hasn't fully pulled back.

A bad wheel bearing can cause issues that way if you drive alot..
Listen for anywheel noise with the radio/stereo off .

Check the tune-up end of things first....then, should the issue persist,
pull the wheels...

Good luck.

95 325 is e-brake doesn't fully engage

Adjustment will usually help, but try parking with front pointing down hill next time.(back in, apply E brake .) Emergency brakes usually hold better/well when vehicle front heading down hill. If it doesn't hold with front pointing down, then rear brakes need attention.

1999 4Runner with RPM and Drive problems

I suggest that you check to see if you have any transmission fluid in it or see if it si burnt. I ther is fluid then you will have to take it to a transmission shop and get an estimate to fix this problem. I am assuming that this vehicle is an automatic. If it has a clutch then you need to replace the clutch, throw out bearing and pressure plate. This will fix your problem.

Gas mileage dropping

While changing all the filters and things, did you change the fuel filter? It could have just been poor quality fuel which can be caused by getting fuel from the bottom of the barrel so to say. If the station you got the gas at was getting low there is a chance that there was water in the fuel. Normally this would cause the vehicle to run a little bit rough, but not always. I would run another tank of fuel through it and see what you get on a second tank.
