The traction control system watches wheel speed thru the wheel speed sensors. it was designed to aid in traction in slippery conditions. when one of the wheels loses traction and the system sees an abnormal insrease of speed in one of the wheels the system will activate and derate the power to avoid wheel slippage. going around a corner the outside wheel will spin faster then the inside wheel. under normal acceleration nothing will happen, however under heay acceleration you may be causing a wheel to break free, especially on wet roads. you could have a speed sensor problem but i would expect you would also have an antilock problem. try a slower acceleration around corners then try a heavy acceleration, if it was ok on normal acceleration but activated on heavy acceleration then your going to have to lighten up on the pedal a bit. otherwise the system should be scanned for codes. i never liked this system much and it wasen,t around too long. good luck!

I have an 08 Jeep Liberty.Whenever the traction control kicks in it makes a growling noise.Any ideas what this could be?

The "growling " noise that you're hearing is the ABS pump being activated. Anytime the Traction Control System is activated or detects wheel spin/slippage, the ABS module will activate the pump because of the wheel speed variations. It is nothing wrong with the vehicle unless the TCS or ABS lights come on and stay on.

I have been having front end problems, I was told both wheel hubs are bad and 1 outer tie rod, also that sway bar bushings are bad. I have been driving as little as possible til I can get fixed but tonight...

Sounds like you may have a symptom known as overactive ABS. What happens is one of the wheel speed signals is dropping out at slow speeds. The ABS is fooled into thinking the wheel has stopped turning even though it has not and activates the ABS system.

This can be caused buy a bad wheel bearing, which it sounds like you are in need of anyways. Start with that and if the [problem persists than you will need to scan the ABS module to see what codes are present.

I had the ABS light come on along with the service traction control. I had it checked at a GM dealer and was told that the right hub needed to be replaced. I OK'd the work thinking it would take care of...

Hi,the traction control light coming up means there is a fault detected in the system and a scan tool will be required to learn what fault has been detected. Possible steering angle sensor, wheel speed sensor or brake pressure sensor since the light comes up when making turns or when backing up. Faults are to be checked and proper diagnostic procedures carried out before parts replacement remedies.....

Traction light stays on as well as my abs would come on and stays on and clicking noise during braking.

Sounds like you have a problem in the front brakes or a front wheel speed sensor. A common cause for a Traction light is a faulty front ABS wheel speed sensor or harness. When the Anti lock brake computer sees a problem in the ABS syetm, it disables traction control as well.

2001 oldsmobile silhouette traction corntol is off and ABS light

I agree with the post about the tail lights. And the symptom about the brakes on when starting was also helpful. When I took off my rear tail lights and removed the top light bulb (top of the 4 is closest to connector) then repeat starting the car the problem is gone. I have a whole drawer of these bulbs that I removed, not because the filament was burned out, but because the base (similar to circuit card edge connector) had heat damage and melted. I am not sure exactly what the problem is but I think there are multiple conductors in the fixture which are too close or get moisture shorts. Anyway I hypothesize the circuit for daytime running lights is leaking current into the brake light circuit, and it causes that module that controls traction control and ABS to declare a fault. When you start with foot on the brakes the brake lamp is pulled on (I don't know if switches hi or lo) so that module doesn't declare the fault until you release the brakes.

I put in new bulbs and it works fine for now, but I know it may reappear some day then I will repeat, disassembly of the fixtures and inspect bulb bases for heat damage and clean out and replace. That is what did the trick for me.
