1999 Ford Ranger jerking in the rear

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger. I got the truck back in January. During takeoff and only in takeoff, it feels like the rear of the truck jerks a little. Sometime once, sometimes two times. I'm a bit worried, as this is my only form of transportation and any replies would be greatly appreciated.

The rear brakes may have some oil on them which will cause sticking/grabbing braking. Usually from leaking brake cylinders or calipers/wheel bearing seals. Pull each wheel and check. Another problem could be a bad 'U' joint at either end of the driveline. Make sure the emergency/parking brake is fully released. It's possible that a rear axle bearing is going out, but they will make a rough sound when moving. Make sure that the spring mounts are tight. Check the oil level in the differential. Shift from forward to reverse several times to see if this reoccurs each time. Get someone to watch and listen while you do this. Hope this helps!

2002 Ford Ranger surges when air temperature is cold

It could be the air-fuel ratio is too lean and isn't correcting for a low air temperature. I have noticed a couple of Fords doing the same thing, but only at light throttle and the problem disappears as soon as the engine is put under load.

The Ford technical hotline might be able to provide an answer if you can find a mechanic willing to call them on your behalf - they won't talk to unregistered users.
