they have a problem with the 4wd switch also it should be reprogrammed by a dealer

you will have to put it on a scanner to check the code

its the switch its self common prob with chevy's

this sytem is shift on the fly!! you can engage and disengage from 2wd to 4wd at speeds up to 45-50mph, 4wd lo you need to be a complete stop some cars need to be in neutral with parking brake on and some need to be in gear there all different, consult your owner manual for correct shifting pattern to 4wd lo range

try putting in nuetral and then shift into high gear . if still does not work sounds like the 4x4 acctuator is bad

its the actuator on the front diff . this is a common problem and a easy but expensive fix

I had the same problem with my 98 sierra 4x4. Turned out that the electrical activator on the transfer case was not working. It will still go into 4 low but not 4 high. Replace the electrical switch on the transfer case and it should work again.
