Motor makes a pecking sound at 2000 rpm only under a load.does not do it while reving parked

Putting your foot in the gas? Is it opening the throttle a little or kicking up to 2000 +rpm's? Opening a litlle would be clean the throttle body, idle air control motor, and the mas air flow sensor. If you go to 200+ rpm's do a compression check. Yuo would have a dead cylinder. Or several. Blown head gasket?

The 2.2 or the 2.4 neither one has RPM limiter. On these vehicle when the timing chain goes,you end up taking out a valve. If your timing chain is out of timing it will do exactly what you describe, now the pecking noise if that is a valve it will do exactly also

hard to say exactly! something loose try looking under hood while reving motor up. heat shields #1 cause of rattles

check all foundations of the engine. may be when load comes, the broken foundations makes sound. thanks

I had this same problem about 6 years ago and it drove me nuts,, I separated the transmission from the motor and found that one of the flywheel bolts had worked its way out and was sitting in the bottom of the bell housing and the flywheel was hitting it as it turned. this is something that I have only seen once in all my years of working on vehicles,, so it is a long shot -- but from what you said - it sounds like the problem that I was having.

it is a problem with your harness
are you firing over 4 rpm?

check idle air control motor for carbon. it may be clogging system. if it sticks it will not let vehicle idle right.

what is thye correct idle rpm in park 1999 amigo

on 98 and up 3.2 and 3.5 v6 engines the intake gaskets are plastic.....thy crack and the truck runs rough.....listen for hissing sound or a check engine light....p0171 lean.

it sounds like the transmission linkage may have came loose.the brake has to be depressed to make it go into gear.so check this switch.there are inexpensive repair manuals at just about any auto parts store.(around $25) the manual will show you where these components are located.
