does the engine seem to revving real fast in neutral or park??
two possible things the throttle cable may have frayed inside the sheath and is holding the throttle open , has someone been turning things under the hood on the throttle body ?? is the cable routed properly in its groove. or the coolant temp sender on the intake
has faulted and is dumping extra fuel (talks to computor works like a choke for a cold engine) did this just start ?? or been a long time issue??
Possibly a broken wire in the steering column. Wires goint through the steering column for the cruise are so fragile when the tilt is used alot causing the wires to brake. Part is $70.00 through advance auto. Cheapest I've found if you order online.
open the hood and check to see that the throttle cables are not out of place, if everything looks ok then unhook the cruise control cable from the throttle body (black plastic end) by pulling up on the cable end. this will disable your cruise control from making your car accelerate at unwanted times. sounds like there may be a problem with the cruise control servo.
If you are working the gas pedal this will happen or when using cruise control, when you let off the gas it comes out of overdrive and when reappling the gas goes back into overdrive this helps cut emissions
There are 2 connections to the throttle lever on the throttle body under the hood. One is for the gas pedal and the other is for the cruise control. The connection for the cruise control is the lower connection. The cable has a very weak retainer system. The retainer clips wear until the cable breaks away from the throttle. To get at this area, you must remove the plastic shield that is held on with 2 push pins. Just pry the push pins up and out of their holes and the cover comes loose. You must either replace the cruise control cable (~$35.00) or reattach the cable end and use a wire tie to keep it from coming off again.
better inspec engine for loose wires hoses etc they go bad wens the last time u did a toonup -chec electrical 1st wat appears to be a leak maybe other mite want to scan it at auto zone ***sometimes surgeing comes from bad IAC Actuator on the throttle body
