Question about 2004 Chevrolet Express

2004 chevy express 3500 no shifting properly

I have a sporadic problem with my 2004 chevy express 3500. I have isolated when it does it and how to solve the problem when it does, but that's not good enough. The local dealer service department can't fix it.

When I drive several hours, then sit idol for a while, it will not shift to high gear. I don't ever feel it shift at all. It is a struggle, just to get it to go 45mph.
The only way to fix it is to disconnect the battery, then connect it back up.

If you have specific details as to the times , rpms , conditions that cause the problems take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop and have it diagnosed
with your details they should be able to pinpoint the fault as it will not be uncommon

if ur replacing it remove front grill disconnect both lines and carefully remove retaining clips from radiator if replacement is original eguipt mount & reconnect --if its a universal follow instructions usually cut off fittings and use clamps and hose to hook up

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. CHANGED SWITCH AND THE SAME THING. I START THE TRUCK AND IS IN 4 HI. THEN HIT AUTO AND THEN 2WD THEN IT SHUTS OFF. AND SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON. STAYS IN 2WD. I CAN HEAR ACTUATOR WHEN TRUCK KEY IS TURNED AND CHANGE WHEN BUTTONS ARE PUSHED. I READ IT COULD BE GROUND UNDER DRIVER SIDE BAD. NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. I WILL TRY TOMORROW

run the fault codes and look for a TCM problem. Have a pressure test done on the gear box to test for clutch and band adjustments.

Remove overfilled transmission fluid in 2004 chevy express 3500


One suggestion is to use a syphon pump via the filler tube. Another is to disconnect one of the cooler lines going to the radiator.

Have a chevy express diesel 3500 it runs good except it sometimes stall while driving and at certain speeds it jerks every now and again


it sounds like the transmission is slipping. you can try a bottle of lucas transmission slip fix but thats more of a band aid. if any fault codes are present check those, could also be a shift solenoid going bad. make sure fluid is at proper level and see if it looks or smells burnt, good sign of a slipping trans is burnt fluid.

check your wheel speed sensor to make sure it is operating correctly if it is bad it will send signals to tranny making late shift and causing hard shift
