2006 Toyota Matrix transmission

You have several ground wires on the transmission. 2 or 3 coming out of the harness and one big one going from the transmission to the body. Make sure they are secure.

just as precaution, have you been changing the trans fluid as recommended. Start off simple, check the fluid level, change the fluid and filter if due. Read the owner's manual for how to check the fluid level. Check for any loose wiring connectors that go to the trans. IF this is no help. Get to a reputable trans shop.

It can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt. Also get the ****** fluid checked. If it's low, then such problems occurs.

The shifter needs to be inspected. If The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities.

check the fluid in manual transmission and in the front and rear differantals i thing you might have blown your transmission

So, when you punch the gas, the transmission shifts gears, and jerks when shifting? If it's a rough shift, first check your transmission fluid for proper level and condition. It should be a good pink color. Dark brown or dirty fluid with a stinky burnt odor is an indication your fluid needs draining and replacing. Actually, most manufacturers recommend replacing fluid and transmission filter every 2 years, or about every 60,000 miles, for longer life of the transmission.

My 2007 vehicle IS included, and I just had the check engine light come on and have been experiencing rough shifting for about 6 months. When the light came on yesterday, it was extremely rough jerky shifting. The light went off today. Took it to Autozone and got same code P2716. Toyota has assigned me a case number, but I won't get a call back until Monday or by close of biz on Tuesday. This problem can cause your car to not start, or to shut down while driving. YIKES! The person I talked to at Toyota acted a little too nonchalant about the whole deal. Telling me to just wait for the call that I will get. She said most dealers would not have the part needed to fix this. According to what I have read. That is the reason why Toyota is not sending out the notification letters to the affected parties until mid-September. Check out all the info and good luck. You have to have the DTC pulled to see what made the light come on , ECU is a common problem on this vehicle,it is covered for 8 years/80,000 miles

Automatic transmission are complex systems. The shifting of gears is based on a number of things like bands, speed, acceleration, deceleration, manifold back pressure, RPMs, temperature, etc.
Sometimes the electrical ground connection for the transmission can become corroded which causes poor shifting.
Since you are getting an error code, you should get a readout for it. Many auto supply store like Advance Auto will loan a meter for you to get a readout. Call up some stores to find one.

This is a known condition. And, is under warranty.

Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealership. Ask them to replace your ECU per TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) TC015-07. The new ECU has redesigned logic that rectifys your condition.
