The wire goes through the gear shifter and comes out the bottom under the rubber flex on the column, the wire tends to break there( orange covered wire} . You can try to fix it or replace shifter arm, there is a disconnect on the left side of column you will need to remove plastic cover upper and lower pieces they pry apart. Trace orange wire back to disconnect.

You also need to remove tilt wheel lever by pulling straight out, its hard to pull off.

Disconnect is back under bunch of wires.

No brake light and tail light and shift lever is stuck in parking gear

Automatic subaru outback is stuck in park. It wont shift out

I fixed one of these recently in a 2003 Outback. The brake light pedal switch feeds the circuit that releases the shift lever lock when it's in Park. (This is why you need to press the brake pedal to shift out of Park.) If the fuse to this circuit is blown, the shift level lock will not release. I traced the issue to the trailer light conversion box (factory/dealer installed, I think). This car has a clear plastic plug that the trailer light conversion box plugs into and the clear plastic plug appears to be a factory-installed part of the wiring harness, accessed on the passenger side of the car, just above the spare tire compartment behind the rear quarter interior panel (you don't need to remove the interior panel to access, just all of the spare tire compartment foam pieces). I've seen these conversion boxes fail before or the wires become shorted somewhere between this internal connection and the trailer pig tail connection end. I unplugged the box from the car's wiring harness at the clear plastic plug mentioned above and the fuse stopped blowing, the brake lights starting working again as well as the turn signal lights and the shift lever unlocked by pressing the brake pedal. This car doesn't tow so it wasn't a problem but you might need to investigate further or replace the conversion box if you need the tow lights connection to operate still.

My chevy silverado 2000 tow haul wont work, light wont come on at all

check all your fuses. If your lucky you might find one the is blown and could be related If not fuse related then you need to remove the platic steering column cover. Under there at the end of the shift lever you will find two small wires that are for the tow haul button. These wires get brittle and break over time from shift level movement it seems. You will have to repair the broken wire and you should be good to go!

My tow haul option is not working on my 2001

You are talking about the trailer option button on the end of the shift select lever ?
I would say a fuse, check there first, and there is also a relay.
As far as I can tell all this switch does is take the tranny out of overdrive, which you can do with shift lever manualy.
If you do not find the problem, you may have to replace the switch.

Car wont shift out of park and blower motor quit.

Fuse #23 controls the turn signals, heater blower, reverse lamps, and the shift lever solenoid. There is a hole in the right side of the console where you can poke around with a ball point pen and unlock the shift lever. The fuse is located in a panel behind the glove box. I took my car to a dealer and had them change the fuse, but the ball point pen trick will save you a tow job.
