My wife recently had the oil changed in her 2000 nissan altima and the next day it started making really loud knocking noise. my neighbor said he this car a had a "oil baffel" where the oil fill is located and the guys may have pushed it into the engine causing this noise. Is there an oil baffell on this model and could this have happened.

Most likely not. It can happen if they jammed a rod down there and poked around and did it on purpose.

Most likely you need to check the oil and take it right back to them if it is full or very near full. These places are known for messing up peoples cars after oil changes. I would go by the amount of oil in the car and mileage since the change.
If you only went a few miles say 50 - you should be able to show evidence it was something done or not done by the oil change people. If it is a comparative lot of miles and there are NO LEAKS of any amount much at all you should be able to get something from them if IF -- the oil level is very low or not showing at all.
If you wait 4 hours after driving the car - then
1- go pull the dip stick from the motor and 2
2 without turning the dip stick sideways or upside down
3- check the level and take a video pic if it is lower than 1 quart -
4 - take this to the people who did the oil change and if the level is low - do NOT drive the car without checking to see if the oil change people are stand up people.

Best of it

The "buzzing noise"; I can tell that I am not alone in having this problem but has someone figured out ... I fit does, that eliminates the brake rotors, tires, wheelbearings, CV's etc. ... BUT with an Altima it is probable the pre-cats. Loud humming noise when driving

2005 Nissan Altima knocking noise when engine starts.

By chance did you check your oil level. That would be ideal before your engine blows out. If that is fine, more in likely it maybe normal. Some GM vehicles do that also due to the cold weather. After sitting for a long period of time the oil will settle in the oil pan til you crank up. The knocking noise may last for 5-10 sec then it stops because the oil is lubricating the pistons again. But if it is constant and oil level is good, get a mechanic to check it out. Hope this helps.

I own a 2005 altima w/ 180,000 miles on it. about a yr ago it started making a pecking noise.(the sound that makes you think it's low of oil, only the oil was fine) recently the pecking has gotten very...

Yes It could be the timing belt because as your car ages and the belt gets worn it starts to stretch. If your timing belt stretches enough your car will come out of time and that will cause a peck or knock. Another thing that you may look into if you have not had a tune up recently is spark plugs and wires. If you have worn plugs or wires it can also cause this to happen on occasion. I hope this helps you out.

I have an 03 nissan altima engine makes loud clicking noise

1st check the the oil level and the vehicle's oil type.(owners manuel) 5w30-10w30
10w 30 is a thicker oil and could possibly be causing this.(Moves more freely through the engine heats the oil)

Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
