99 chevy malibu radiator leaking transmission

My car started leaking transmission fluid after hitting a snow pile. I am guessing a hose broke or something. What would it possibly be? Someone told me a radiator. Would I need to replace the entire radiator? I am wanted to know before I spend the money on parts. I am wanting this to be a do-it-yourself job. It is a 99 chevy malibu. Thanks in advance.

There are transmission cooling lines going to and from the bottom of the radiator...some cars have a small radiator in the back of the cooling water for this...chances are this is damaged somewhat. and don't for get the belly pan on the transmission to see if this is bent....you can do it ! might be cramped space but a fairly easy fix...good luck

Where is the radiator on a 99 Chevy Malibu?

Their is no radiator cap that goes directly into radiator. if you do plan on putting barr's leak in it just put it in the coolent tank on the passenger side that is the only way.

Transmission is not "engaging" at all- fluid

I'm guessing you mean transmission fluid poured out? That would certainly explain why it won't move. The most common leak point for older automatic transmission cars are the transmission cooler lines. They run from the radiator to the transmission (the cooler is built into the radiator) and they are made of steel so they are prone to rust. I would start looking there. The other leak points would be the lower pan, axle seals, and where the case bolts together. Take a look at the radiator and you should see some small steel lines bolted to the radiator. Follow them and look for heavy rust that is wet with fluid.

Large power steering fluid leak on 1999 Chevy Malibu. any advise? Would help a lot if I could find a link for a fluid line diagram showing which are high pressure

if you have a large leak,, its not hard to tell if its on the power side,, the return side won't be spraying the fluid all over the place like the high side does, It will pretty much just drip, as far as a diagram, any autozone , napa, or parts store can print that for you ( as well as any Chevy dealers parts dept) free. Luckily the hoses on the malibu are short so they should be easily seen

Im leaking transmission fluid from what appears to

Make sure you don not run low on transmission fluid in your transmission. Low transmission fluid will cost you a new transmission. You have the transmission line that connects to the upper passenger side or the radiator and the lower passenger side of the radiator. Determine which line has gone bad and you can buy a rubber transmission line hose at most Auto Parts store like Parts Source. Cut off out the section with a pipe cutter that has corroded through and replace with the transmission hose. Make sure you tell them it's a transmission line hose your looking for and don't use any other hose and double clamp with a compression clamps at ether end. If it's the connection at the radiator that has gone bad, replace that end and do that same as you would to sectioning off the the corroded line and try not to have more then 3 inches of repaired section. What ever you do, do not add any stop leak, this will create problems with the shift solenoids and check valves in your valve body in the transmission causing a transmission replacement soon after adding. Good luck and keep me posted.

Is transmission cooler located inside of radiator on 99 chevy suburban? (OEM) car froze at -3 temp fear we have antifreeze in trany fluid, fluid resivore is to full. also water leaking out under car...

I would not worry about antifreeze in the transmission. The pressure in the tranny cooler will not let any coolant get in. If it was leaking you would have tranny fluid in the radiator. You may have some freeze plugs that have pushed out or a cracked block or some coolant passage above the transmission. Get it pressure checked

99 Chevy Malibu - auto trans - no dipstick

You have what is called a closed cased transmission. You have to crawl underneathe to get to the tranny and remove the upper bolt close to the side of the case (more towards the bottom of the transmission). When you fill it, you fill it till it starts to drip out of that hole.

Looking for a picture for you.

Leaking radiator fluid but not from rad., pink fluid, no hose leaks

A fluid leak that is pink and/or red colored is usually either power steering fluid or transmission fluid. I recommend checking both. You can check the power steering fluid when the car is off. However, the transmission fluid should be checked with the engine warm and idling in neutral. Have someone else step on the brake or use the parking brake and block the wheels while you're measuring the transmission fluid level.

Transmission fluid leak just off Radiator

Those are your transmission cooling lines. Buy them and replace them.

When you install them, take your time...don't be in a rush.
