Radio works, but no sound ? It lights, you can change the station, change to cd, but no sound. it happend after we had a dead battery. I checked the fuse, but did not see anything wrong. its a 2001 ford windstar

Hmm sounds like could be that the car was hot jumped from a dead battery or was jumping another car and it may fried the stereo. Should be able get a factory replacement out a junk yard less than $50

if fuse are good, its a bad head end.

Sounds like you have a screwed up microprocessor. You could try to reset the unit by finding the main power and disconnecting it for 20 seconds. If you cannot find the power cable, you could try to disconnect the vehicle's battery for few minutes, then power up and see if that helps.

the radio will play with radio , cassette, CD, or USB stick and even AUX to the iphone.
so are all dead? if yes,

the power pin is dead, (lights up does that mean dial lamps or you can see station tuning work, if just back lights that is not radio power
that is the park lights power.
the radio has power wire, main, that must be 12vdc or the radio and amp will be dead.
missing inline fuse. or blown?
most radios have 3 power pins and 1 ground
1: 12vdc power. main
2: 12vdc park lamp circuit, for dial.
3: memory.
4 : ground wire.
take all 4 to work right.
takes 1 and 4 to play music. at say USB port.

Sounds very much like two possibles a short in the fuse box to the non working parts or your battery went dead and was recharged and you did not reset these items. As what U mention all sound like the equipment that needs to be reset when you change a battery or it goes dead.

Check the speakers+wiring

you can check for a bad connection on the back,i had the same problem but it was because right before that happend i had to jumpstart it and i burnt the internal amplifiers.

This sounds like your battery is dead will need to replace or charge.
if you left something on and ran it dead it might charge back up
