Question about 2000 Ford Taurus
This is normal, if the idle wasn't high (about 2,500 RPM) the engine wopuld stall out until it warms up to normal temperature. If it is above 3000 RPM for more than a few seconds you have a problem.

It is probably the iac (idle air control) valve. it will cause a high idle, if you put it in drive and let off brake n it takes off fast thats what it is

That is just the way the engine warms itself up to operating temp and gets the oil and fluids moving around to lubricate the engine.
