I have a 97 Silverado k1500 with a 4l60e transmission and im leaking quite a bit of fluid out of the hole right under the torque converter and fly wheel. It first happened on the freeway about 200 miles form home and out of nowhere i blew out almost all of my tranny fluid. So i pulled over let it cool down and filled it back up. It shifts fine into all gears as long as i keep the fluid level up I have already pulled the whole thing and replaced the seal and it continues to leak. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be???

well it turns out that i warped the seal when i put the new one in. So i replaced it again and it fixed my leakage problem. But now the damn thing wont shift into gear at all. Any suggestions??

Check the converter were the seal makes contact with it. The seal wears a groove in the converter and the seal will leak. The new seal comes into contact at the same point. The only way I know to fix is to put in new converter. This also happens on rear main seals on engines. Hope this helped.

How to get fly wheel off of 77 Ford F100, 351 mod, 400 block?

I had to do this on my 1988 F250, if I remember correctly:
Remove in this order:
Driveshaft, Starter, lower cover plate, transmission, torque converter.
Flywheel s/b bolted to converter.
When driveshaft is removed - plug gap in tranny output - between drive shaft and housing - to prevent fluid spillage.
When removing transmission - plug hole in converter to prevent spillage.
When handling converter hold it flywheel side down until - to avoid fluid loss.
I presume you have all the correct tools and a helper.
hope it goes well

I have a 1993 Chevy WT1500 pickup with a leaking transmission.

did you use lock tight on the torque converter bolts when installing them? it may be coming loose and ruining the seals. It doesn't take much. You may have some kind of buildup on your output shaft or a bur of some type that is cutting the seal. Check the outside hub of the torque conv. for roughness or spurs. The seals should work if everything is done right.

Converter is slinging the fluid out as you are running down the highway. If you replaced the front seal on the transmission and checked for a leak elsewere and found none. then it has to be the converter doing the damage. Hope this will help you.

You are suppose to put the torque converter on the bell housing first, then align the engine to the torque converter slot. I hope nothing has been damaged.
