If you drive your car for 3 weeks with a misfire what can happen to other parts of your car.

  • Anonymous Mar 30, 2010

I took it in for spark plug change. then about 1 week my car started to jerk and shake at stop lights. so i took it back and they said they couldnt read anything wrong with it cause the check engine light wasn't on. so they sent me home with my car misfiring for 3 weeks i had no choice but to drive it . thats my only car it was getting bad to a point that it shoke so bad the light came on .so took it back again and they so called fixed it .said it was a mis fire and 1 week later here i am again. misfiring. so are they responsible for my car since they sent me home for 3 weeks. could something worse had happened to my car during the 3 weeks.

If it is an ignition miss, than you can damage your catalytic converter, as raw fuel would be force through it.
The inside of your combustion chamber would also become very fouled up, and most probably ruin your spark plugs as well.

You probably wont cause any serious damage, but if you leave it long enough it could definately create more problems.

No, nothing else really should happen other than what i already told you. I suggest you take it to a different shop. If they cant fix a car unless it has a check engine light on, they arent very experienced mechanics.

P1763 and p0303 codes for my 02 jeep grand cherokee. car is super sluggish and shakes when gets to 50mph.

no engine stated.??????????
303 is gross misfire on #3 cylinder. on all cars.
its a for sure thing, means bad combustion on #3 and its power is weak. 1763 is tranny The 7 means that. and is problem2.

ever get a 60k miles tunup this decade?
sparks plugs, spark wires, filters, air and fuel>?
spark plugs dont last life of any engine.
THE CEL blinking (oper guide tells) means that misfire
is burning the CAT converter to a crisp. (raw fuel + air does that)
the opr. guide says get it serviced, fast, dont drive fast or tow anything. all great advice in the glove box.

get a cheap tuneup, and magic can happen in most cases.
misfire has many causes. over 20.
but a tuneup not done, is 99% cause. (due to nobody doing them)
only fate , determines truth, not statistics....
for example you sucked a valve on #3..

if the new spark parts dont fix #3 a compression tests is next.
or an injector balance test say from #3 to one other injector.
all this is like 1hr work, but no engine stated, so.....

Misfired cylinder 6, replaced coil, plug Misfired cylinder 5, replaced coil, plug Misfired unsure which yet, all of these happening within a week. It will run fine for a day or so after rep

change all plugs with proper ones - they are picky for some reason - do not change number or brand from original - coils were probably ok, - get some injector cleaner and run through it but check for exhaust leak at e g r tube - is a common over looked cause of misfire - a thing to keep in mind is misfire isn't always spark issue. hope I was of some help

Misfire when its cold

Misfire when cold ,is easier to work on ,than one you get
only hot & every 3 weeks for no reason.

Do you have any PO301 thru PO 306 or 8 codes?

Do you have COP Coils or ignition wires?

Check for vacuum leaks, entire vehicle, yes the evap &
exhaust as well.

Are the spark plugs more than 3 years old
Clean MAF Sensor
Back Prob the TPS Sensor

Test-do not throw parts at it

If you can arrange the use of a professional scan tool
go for a test driv ein Mode #06 & look at cylinder misfire
counts

EGR ---issues?

1997 chevy camaro misfire code in cylinder 3

Wow, you replaced the injector and computer? The two least likely and most expensive parts first? A compression and leakdown test should have come right after plugs, wires and ign coil.

Code reads multi cylinder misfire

PO300 mu;ti cyclinder misfire can be many things Low fuel pressure or clogged fuel filter. Worn sparkplugs, need of major tuneup. If the car doesn't run bad conpared to last week when it did'nt have the missfire it may have missed just long enough to set the code. Engine starting cold and the valves and other engine parts not warming up fast enough not to stumble. The oil change being overdue can make this happen.. If it seems to run as good as anyways and basic maintanice is up to date reset the computer ( clear codes). Drive the car and try to see when and if the light comes on. Running real low on fuel, and running real short rips can cause fuel build up in the oil that can make it stumble as the engine oil does come to operating temperture.

Engine problems

Maybe the C02 sensor or the coil pack were defective. Try telling the mechanic about your problem.Money does not grow on trees. you can't be spending your hard earned money on defective products. Some dirty mechanics will sometimes use used parts or cheap brand parts that will give out. If they have dignity they won't but there are some that will.
