I did a transmission pan drop on my 2005 chevy equinox and I can't seem to find the fill plug.
There is no fill plug on transmission pans, you have to fill them from the
dipstick tube in the engine bay. Get a long funnel that will fit into the
dipstick tube hole, and then fill it that way. Make sure you turn the
vehicle on while filling it, and put it through all the gears, with your foot
on the brake. This will make sure your torque convertor is being properly
filled, along with the trans. Good luck.
This is not correct, there is a fill plug on top of the trans that requires a 1 1/8 inch 12 point socket.
daves944, you are wrong. This 05 Equinox comes with the AF33-5 Asian Warner 5 speed unit. The big obvious bolt on top of the case holds the 3rd clutch drum to the case. If it is removed the trans will require disassembly to repair. Not only is there no fill point on top of the case but experimenting with what looks like a fill point could be very costly.
The dipstick that dsldaw correctly mentioned is the checking and filling point on the AF33-5 unit. Even though it is bright yellow, the dipstick handle is hard to see since the front transaxle mount blocks most of the view while looking down (under the hood), and to make it harder it has to be unbolted to remove. Difficult, but the only correct way to service this trans.

There is no dipstick tube, the fill plug is on top of the tranny
Incorrect, and your bad advise could cause someone to take off the 5 pointed 3rd clutch drum retainer (the most visible and "obvious" fill plug looking bolt on top of the case) which would result in transaxle failure. The dipstick tube (and fill point when removed) is a small yellow plastic part that is bolted to the case, facing forward and well hidden by the front transaxle mount.
I have the GM manual picture for the location of both the drain and fill plugs. Hypermile is correct. DON'T pull off the large bolt on the top. The little dipstick sits facing the radiator at the lower front of the case. .
