There is no fill plug on transmission pans, you have to fill them from the
dipstick tube in the engine bay. Get a long funnel that will fit into the
dipstick tube hole, and then fill it that way. Make sure you turn the
vehicle on while filling it, and put it through all the gears, with your foot
on the brake. This will make sure your torque convertor is being properly
filled, along with the trans. Good luck.

This is not correct, there is a fill plug on top of the trans that requires a 1 1/8 inch 12 point socket.

  • Hypermile Jul 25, 2011

daves944, you are wrong. This 05 Equinox comes with the AF33-5 Asian Warner 5 speed unit. The big obvious bolt on top of the case holds the 3rd clutch drum to the case. If it is removed the trans will require disassembly to repair. Not only is there no fill point on top of the case but experimenting with what looks like a fill point could be very costly.

The dipstick that dsldaw correctly mentioned is the checking and filling point on the AF33-5 unit. Even though it is bright yellow, the dipstick handle is hard to see since the front transaxle mount blocks most of the view while looking down (under the hood), and to make it harder it has to be unbolted to remove. Difficult, but the only correct way to service this trans.

There is no dipstick tube, the fill plug is on top of the tranny

  • Hypermile Jul 25, 2011

Incorrect, and your bad advise could cause someone to take off the 5 pointed 3rd clutch drum retainer (the most visible and "obvious" fill plug looking bolt on top of the case) which would result in transaxle failure. The dipstick tube (and fill point when removed) is a small yellow plastic part that is bolted to the case, facing forward and well hidden by the front transaxle mount.

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2012

I have the GM manual picture for the location of both the drain and fill plugs. Hypermile is correct. DON'T pull off the large bolt on the top. The little dipstick sits facing the radiator at the lower front of the case. .

Do you need to torque oil pan bolts?
Engine oil pan bolts range in torque from seven foot-pounds to 22 ft-lb or more for large engines with heavier pans and bolts. Once you've torqued the bolts and filled the engine with oil, you should run the engine for five minutes to bring it up to normal operating temperature.

Transmission drain plug location on 2004 Cadillac deville

The OEM manufacturer did not install a drain plug in the transmission pan of the vehicle. You must drop the pan to drain the fluid. This is normal as you usually service the filter when you drain and fill the transmission.

Where is the drain and fill plug on the transmission of a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle automatic transmission

To drain the fluid just drop the pan and drain it that way. Replace the transmission filter and then reinstall the transmission pan. Find the dip stick tube and fill the fluid through that. I'm not sure what engine/transmission you have, so you'll have to look in your owners manual and see what the amount is.
Measure the fluid you drained and match it to the mount the manual and make sure its close.
When filling the fluid put in all but 1/2 quart. Start the car and get it up to operating temperature. Place the car in neutral and read the fluid on the dip stick, add more fluid if needed.

Good luck

How can I change the transmision fluid in my 2005 chevy equinox?

Most transmission pans do not have a drain plug. To drain the transmission the velicle will have to be raised. I usually set a large drain pan-several quarts in size-under a rear corner of the transmission pan. I loosen about three bolts on the corner so the transmission fluid will drain. When drained, I remove the rest of the bolts-all 32 or more of them. With the pan off check the color of the fluid look for burnt looking fluid. See if the fluid smells burnt. If so you may have other transmission problems. Look for metal pieces in the transmission pan another indicator of other problems. Clean all the old gasket from the pan and transmission housing-be careful not to gouge either the pan or housing. I use my finger or thumbnail if possible. Gouging either of these places will cause leaks. If you're going to replace the screen do so now. Place the new pan gasket on the pan. Check with the manufacturer's specs before using any permatex or other silicones to hold the pan gasket. I always slide a bolt or two through the pan and gasket holes, lift the pan, and start the bolts. Go slow. Make sure each bolt is going through the gasket hole before tightening it to the transmission housing. Replace the bolts and tighten to a snug using a criss-cross pattern. Go back and forth across the pan tightening each bolt a few turns until all are tight. Don't overtighten the bolts. Doing so will damage the pan gasket, When all bolts are tight, refill the transmisson slowly checking for leaks. Fill the transmission to manufacturer's specifications.

Hi, where do i find the dipstick to check the trans fluid on a 06 chevy equinox?

this model doesn't have a transmission fluid dip stick, it is a sealed transmission, there is a fill plug on the case of the transmission just above the pan in most cases, the fluid should be just below the plug, u must access this from under the car.

Changing trans oil and filter on 2005 explorer

Theres a drain plug on the bottom of the pan, you need to get a clean pan and drain the old fluid in the bucket so u can measure how much fluid to put back in the transmission. Remove the pan bolts and the pan and replace the filter, reinstall the transmission pan . In the center of your drain plug theres a star head plug remove it, this is your fill hole for the fluid. You will need a fluid exchanger for the fill procedure if you dont have one you can get one at Napa. With the truck running at operating temperature fill the exchanger with fluid and insert the rubber tube into the fill hole in the drain plug. Slowly fill the transmission with the same amount of the old fluid that you drained out. Reinstall the fill plug and test drive the vehicle and check for leaks.

Where do I find the dipstick for my transmission on my 2005 Chevy Equinox?

Should be a red handled dipstick on the left hand side of the motor. Not all car's have the dipstick, many types, you have to go underneath, find the upper fill plug on the tranny, remove the plug, and reach your finger inside and you should feel the fluid at the top of the hole.
