NOS is Nitros Oxide or Laughing gas. Basically it is like pumping very cold oxygen into your motor which makes the petrol burn much faster ,hotter and cleaner . This delivers close to 90% of the power from your fuel instead of the usual 60%
This puts a HUGE load on pistons, conrods ,bearings and your transmission.
If you buy a nitrous kit for your car, all the relevant plumbing etc should be included , however I would suggest you talk to your local speed shop and engine rebuilder as to what mods you should do to your specific engine.
Personally I would buy a spare engine to play with , then, when it explodes you can put the old one back in while you are rebuilding your silly motor.
Endless fun and a great way to spend your money.

    Couple of points:-

Providing you are not adding more than about 25% of your stock power (so if you have a 200BHP engine, yo u are only adding around 50 bhp worth more with nitrous, then providing the engines is known to be a good one (Toyota Supra turbo MK 3 engines are almost bullet proof) - then you should not have any real issue.

If you want more power than 25% more, then you need to invest in a controller which ramps up the power over a second or so so the engine is not "shocked".

Nitrous solenoids from people like "Holley NOS" are a bit grim, you ideally want to look for "pulsoids" which are so reliable that they are guaranteed for life - as opposed to coming complete with a rebuild kit!

Nitrous can be used on turbo cars with fantastic results even from quite small amounts of nitrous - because they effectively eliminate turbo lag - you spool up within a second or so - so your engine is giving you high torque right from the off.

Make sure you buy a "wet" kit which adds the correct amount of additional fuel to your engine along with the nitrous. If you do not, then there is a HUGE chance you will lean out the engine and that gets expensive.

Nitrous is great fun - used it for many years - but use good quality kit (pulsoids) and if you use a narrow pipe (I used to use 4mm bore copper), then you do not need a "release valve" to remove the gas to get the liquid back. Saves gas.

The braided pipes LOOK pretty but waste a lot of the nitrous as the liquid expands to a gas in the pipe instead of in the engine - where you want it.

I've got a 1996 Chevy with a blown 4.3 vortec I bought a 2001 4.3 vortec to replace it will I work

In general, a 2001 4.3 Vortec engine should be compatible with a 1996 Chevy vehicle that originally had a 4.3 Vortec engine. However, there may be some differences in wiring and sensors that would need to be addressed during the installation process.
It is recommended that you consult with a certified mechanic or an automotive specialist who can assess the compatibility of the two engines and provide guidance on any modifications or adjustments that may be needed to ensure a successful engine swap. They can also help you with any necessary adjustments to the transmission, exhaust system, and other components that may be affected by the engine swap.

Ford street ka - rear window heater hardtop

Installing a cable to connect the rear window heater in a Ford Street Ka hardtop can be a complex task that requires some mechanical and electrical knowledge. There is no standard cable available in the car, therefore it's necessary to install a new cable to connect the rear window heater.
Here's a general guideline on how to install a new cable for the rear window heater on a Ford Street Ka hardtop:
  1. Locate the main power source for the rear window heater. This is typically located under the dashboard or in the engine compartment.
  2. Run the new cable from the main power source to the rear window heater. Make sure to route the cable along the existing wire harnesses and avoid any potential hazards such as moving parts or hot surfaces.
  3. Connect the cable to the rear window heater. This typically involves removing the cover from the heater and attaching the cable to the appropriate terminals.
  4. Test the rear window heater to make sure it is working properly.
It's important to have a good understanding of the car's electrical system, and to be familiar with the tools and materials needed to do the job properly. It's also important to make sure the car's warranty is not void by doing this modification.
A professional mechanic or an auto electrician could be the best choice to do this task. They will have the necessary knowledge and experience to safely and effectively install the cable for the rear window heater on your Ford Street Ka hardtop.
It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines when performing any modification or repairs on your vehicle, to ensure the safety and proper functioning of the car.

Unable to do emissions test, just installed new battery 2 days prior

Once the computer looses its memory, the car has to be driven under several different conditions before it has stored the necessary info for the emissions test.
The loop includes city driving, highway driving, and more than one or two stops with the key off. The engine has to be at operating temp too. Usually 50 - 100 miles of each will do it.

How to put a head light in

550c128.gif
Release the locking ring, then withdraw the halogen bulb from the headlamp assembly

Removal & Installation

This procedure only applies to replaceable halogen headlight bulbs (such as nos. 9004 and 9005); it does not pertain to sealed beam units.
  1. Open the vehicle hood and secure it in an upright position.
  2. Unfasten the locking ring which secures the bulb and socket assembly, then withdraw the assembly rearward.
  3. If necessary, gently pry the socket's retaining clip over the projection on the bulb (use care not to break the clip.) Separate the bulb from its socket.
To install:
  1. Before installing a light bulb into the socket, ensure that all electrical contact surfaces are free of corrosion and dirt.
  2. Line up the replacement headlight bulb with the socket. Firmly push the bulb into the socket until the bulb is seated. If so equipped, make sure the spring clip latches over the bulb's projection.

WARNING Do not touch the glass bulb with your fingers. Oil from your fingers can severely shorten the life of the bulb. If necessary, wipe off any dirt or oil from the bulb with rubbing alcohol before completing installation.

  1. To ensure that the replacement bulb functions properly, activate the applicable switch to illuminate the bulb which was just replaced. (If this is a combination low and high beam bulb, be sure to check both intensities.) If the replacement light bulb does not illuminate, either it too is faulty or there is a problem in the bulb circuit or switch. Correct if necessary.
  2. Position the headlight bulb assembly and secure it with the locking ring.
  3. Close the vehicle hood.
