P1870= transmission component slipping..detected a slip there are a number of reasons this may occur..were there any other codes or just that one...If there were a bunch of other codes it may have fooled the computer into thinking there were components slipping ....I would clear the code and see if it reoccurs..While code is present you may find it shifts harder ..and possibly will not go into 4th gear or overdrive..good luck

I have a 1994 roadmaster, got the trans rebuilt and still won't shift properly. Hard shifts from whatever gear it takes off in to the next gear when first started, afterwards shifts easier, however it...

Steve, go to They have a roadmaster section with a lot of dedicated roadies, some are fanatics in their loyalty to those Buicks. I believe there are a good amount of sharp people on everything Roadmaster. They should know all the ins and outs of that code 84 and what to do about it. Joining is free to register.

Now personally, I don't think a reflash can be done on a '94 model, that is still OBD-1, but I cannot speak with certainty.

Depending on what connector is in this vehicle being that some 1995 where OBD2 and some OBD1 it would be better to take it to your local Autozone or Advanceauto they pull codes for free and can give you a print out.

That is an oxygen sensor, these sensors send a signal to the computor to adjust the rich/lean fuel mixture.
When a code comes up for them, they generally need replacing.
