When I hit the gas past 25 mph the car will not accelerate, the RPMs shoot up but no acceleration???

IF you have a carby then take it apart and clean it out as all the throats are not working properly including the accelerator pump.

Transmission band slipping.

run the fault codes
most likely a problem accelerator position sensor , throttle body motor sensor or wiring fault

sounds like transmission is sliping

If O2 sensor the car will jump while accelerating. Could be that it is the catalytic convertor. Could be an issue with fuel filter, though unlikely. If its jumpy at 20-25 then I would agree with you.

it sound like it could be a vacuum problem. I have experienced this on cars i have worked on it usually turns out to be a vacuum problem 90 percent of the time.

if the truck feels like,
the more gas you give it the slower it goes,
you might want to check for a converter plugging up.

Well if you would elaborate some more on what kind of car you have,...that would be helpful as my ESP is very low today....

I have had same problem I took off the gas cap and then put it back on and it seemed to fix the problem.
