2003 Dodge Neon SXT is overheating. Mechanic states it is an electrical problem (a short in the wiring to the fan)and I should take it to an electricain. Any cheaper/easier ideas out there that I could try on my own first?
Is this mechanic a mechanic or a unit changer who works for a main dealer and doesnt know anything about cars,a good mechanic should be able to fix this problem with his eyes shut and one hand tied behind his back---- find one who can and give this strutting peacock in overhauls the boot
sorry to upset you but ?? a good mechanic should be able to diagnose electrical faults and not pass the buck ,because you are taught everything in a technical college when you do a mechanics course .Right leave AC on and see if fan runs on slow speed ,this will keep the engine cool ,if no AC fan either then firstly check the big fuses near the battery if they test out ok then look for the rad fan relay and test for a current in one of the big terminals ,if you have this current then try connecting it with the other big terminal via a paper clip and see if fan runs ,if fan runs then its either a relay or the thermostat switch that controls the fan .Tell your daughter the minimum age for driving here in spain is 18 yrs old and even if she passes her two part driving test at this age she still has to drive with a green L plate in the car for a while ,
just bypass the relay in fuse box under hood,single wire bypass, simple ez safe.. i've been using it for over 2 years, contact me

Actually, he is a very trusted mechanic that I have been using for quite a few years (As my daughter is only 17 and is now on her 2nd used car). He has always been honest and always does a great. He however, doesn't do electrical work.
