How do you check the ignition switch on a 1991 Chevy blazer S-10? i checked and the starter is good, brand new battery, but turn the key and all the power works but starter wont turn.
There are some fusible links mounted with the starter on the cable, check to see if they are burned into, pull on them they will pull apart like taffy. Also, check the neutral safety switch ,try in neutral ,see if it will start.Make sure the negative battery cable is good, this can cause the problem also, see if there is 12 volts on the purple wire on the starter solenoid when starting the engine,if not, check the neutral safety switch,if it is good, replace the ignition switch.
Testimonial: "thanks!"
No,just remove the cover under the drivers side dash, where your knees are, then remove the two, maybe four nuts,on studs,or they could be bolts, anyway before the column drops, remove the clip on the right side of the column, that has the prnd1d2 indicater cable on it,then lay the column down in the seat,or as far as it will go,and the ignition switch is on top, left hand side of column with a rod in it,the switch is kinda long about 4 inches long with a plug in to it,two screws in it,nothing to it.

any suggestions on how to get the ignition switch out? do you have to remove the steering wheel first and go in thru the top on the steering column?
