Today for some reason, my 1998, 2.4 cyl., Automatic Pontiac Sunfire wasn't shifting properly. The speedometer just stayed at zero and I have no clue what happened. It worked fine last night and started this today. Transmission sounds good and doesn't appear to be slipping. Checked the known fuses and they seemed fine too. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?
My 04 Montana did the exact same thing....multiple times. I took it to the transmission shop and had them scan it. Nothing came up, and they didn't have a real good solution. Did you ever find anything out?
Check for engine and transmission codes. Is everything else working in the cluster? If you can get a scan tool then see if it is showing the speed while you are moving. If not then check the speed sensor wiring.Let me know if you have anymore questions.Good luck.
If your speedometer isn't working then your PCM doesn't have the correct input and doesn't know when to shift properly because the governor valve in your transaxle isn't telling the Transmission control module road speed and therefore cannot overcome throttle valve. You will have all kinds of shifting problems
