SOURCE: fan belt replacement

Hey there tsukaska,

No problem.

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is near the Alternator toward the center of the engine. It's on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

SOURCE: how to fit a new alternator belt

If it's just a single belt and you know where the belt tightener is you can do it yourself. Just loosen the tightener up, put the belt on and tighten belt so there is about 1/2" deflection when you push on the belt in the center of the pulleys, then tighten the bolts.

My audi a5 wont run it starts and cuts out since i fitted a new serpentine belt

How long does it run? Sure you only changed the serpentine belt? The car would actual even run without the serpentine (or also called accessory belt) since the belt only drives fairly non essential components (AC compressor, alternator, fan, power steering pump. etc).

How to replace alternator

You don't say what type of vehicle it is but generally there is one bolt on the top sliding bracket that should be loosened first. Then loosen the bottom bolt (its a long one) You may have to use two spanners.(one to hold the head of the bolt while undoing the nut with the other) When the bottom bolt is slightly loosened pull up on the fan belt and the alternator will move up making it possible to remove the fan belt from the alternator pulley.Fitting the new alternator is the reverse process

Remove fan belt

Hi Tom, The adjustment of the alternator is carried out by 1) loosening the locking nut which is fitted to the top front housing of the alternator and is fitted parallel to the alternator. 2) loosen the adjustment bolt located on top of the bracket until the belt can be removed and a replacement fitted. How do you change an alternater belt

require to loosen of alternator mount bolts. Slide the alternator towards the rear of the car, this will slacken off the belt. Remove alternator belt and feed over the harmonic balancer and fan.Fit new belt. Slide alternator foward untill their is around 10-15 mm deflection in the belt, and tighten alternator mount bolts again to secure belt and tension. Recheck tension after about 500kms

Alternator belt is broken

Get a new belt from an autoparts store, to suit your vehicle year and model.

The alternator has to be loosened to fit the new belt. There's usually two locations to loosen

  1. the top adjuster clamp arm; and
  2. the lower pivot bolt. On the 4cyl motors its in behind the oil filter. Uncertain about the v6.
Once loose, the alternator can be swiveled so that the belt will fit over the main pulley.

Make sure that the alternator does actually rotate. If not, get it serviced or replaced.

Swivel the alternator back down and tighten the clamp arm so there's about 8-10mm of movement when you press the belt.

Tighten up the lower pivot bolt.

If you don't have the tools or skills to do this, have the car towed to a garage.

Replacing broken belts 1990 toyota pickup

I found that it is embarrassingly obvious once you get the parts and place them in position. Each belt only fits the appropriate pulley in width and length. When the belt breaks there's no visual reference (as one would have if he replaced the belts before they broke!) if the belt diagram is worn off the hood. Lesson learned; replace belts- a simple task- before they break!
