I was driving to the store one day and the check engine light came on. I pulled over and checked water, oil level and both were normal so I went to the store. On the way back the transmission dropped into "limp" mode.
I drove home and the van sat for about two months. My mechanic friend replaced the fuel pump, still would not start, we replaced the air filter, pcv valve, spark plugs, spark p-lug wires, distributer cap and rotor and battery. Motor turns over, and it sounds like it will start but no suych luck. It had very little fuel in it when it stopped but we have since added about 3 1/2 gallons. Each time we do something it gets closer and closer to starting but still not yet.
My friend has a diagnostic code reader and we replaced the crank shaft sensor based on the codes. No other codes come up.
Any suggestions? Thank You
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse.
If your missing several system, an example, at the ignition coil and fuel injectors, engine cranking, check the dark green wire with orange tracer for voltage? If no voltage that leads back to asd relay. I'm not saying the relay is faulty. Your computer has to see both the cam and crank sensor signals or it may not ground the asd relay. The asd relay supplies voltage to several systems.

A multi misfire may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wires, Faulty coil (pack), Faulty oxygen sensor(s), Faulty fuel injector(s), Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages, Faulty camshaft position sensor, Defective computer.
The engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wire, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.
Good luck and hope this information helps, keep me posted, be glad to help you get the truck running 100% again. Not sure if your running a K&N air filter, and if you are there may be a flim of oil on the MAF sensor that is making you run lean. You may want to spray down the MAF sensor with a can of MAF cleaner.
SOURCE: getting a code P0304 on my 1999 Dodge 1500 5.2L.
the code that is given means that the coil, plug ,plug wires, for that cylinder could be bad, check spark plug and see if this is the problem or a bad wire.

swap the asd relay with the fuel pump relay and see what it does then

pcm posably but i think i would look at the grounds from the battery to body and bat to engine
SOURCE: Speedometer went crazy, Engine signal, kick after full brake stop
he told you to take it to a transmission specialist because that is where those sensors are located. The speed sensor is located in the transmission. It reads the speed by counting the number of teeth on a relucter wheel. (thats the simple explanation).
I sounds to me like there might be some debri in the transmission that could be affecting the reading.
The engine computer uses that information to control the engine and transmission. Without that information the transmission could go into limp home mode and or have erratic shiffting plus other problems.
I would really suggest you get it in for a test and evaluation asap. I do not consider this vehicle to be reliable or safe because the transmission could lockup and or otherwise fail.
As a side note, these minivans are notorious for having failing transmissions and most transmission shops find that the majority of their work is on this minivans. One of the reasons I have just kept my full size van.
