Change transmission fluid in 2004 Toyota Corolla

slipping transmission could be worn out transmission.but first make transmission fluid and filter been changed.if already been done check transmission fluid level could be low. if all is good have transmission shop do pressure test check out transmission.

There is a filter and it should be checked. You will also need a new gasket for the pan.

I'm not sure about Toyota's specific recommendation but when I ran my service station, we changed trans fluid at the 50,000 to 60,000 mile range. This covered most manufacturer's requirements at the time. Hope this helps.

Toyota uses Dex III ATF. You can buy from Wal-Mart:

1) Cheaper: Super Tech DEX III ATF $10/gal
2) Better: Valvoline MaxLife DEX/MER ATF $18/gal

Both are compatible, depending on how much you care about your car and how deep your pockets are :)

To check ATF fluid, look for an orange/red color dipstick (similar to the yellow dipstick for engine oil). You need to have the car in running temperature, shift through from Park, N, D, ... then back to D, N, Park (stopping for a few seconds in each gear). Then go to measure your fluid level.

If you haven't check it ever, it might be pale brown, which may look clean to you, but very deceivingly... becaue it should look red-ish / pinkish. When chemicals broken down in ATF, the red-ish color disappears. It may even be brown and smell burnt, that just mean your transmission is not in a very good shape.

If you do change the ATF, it's good to put a bottle of Lucus Oil brand "STOP SLIP / TRANSMISSION FIX" in it during your fluid change. It is a 24oz. bottle cost about $12 @ Wal-Mart or any auto stores. It will extend your transmission's life regardless. I highly recommend that.

well from what i know toyota recomendsto change it every 30,000 miles to keep your tranny clean and sludge free for every car, and to checkyour tranny oil fluid, if it doesnt have a dipstick then i dont know

I would change it about every 60,000 miles

the fill pluig is on the side of the transmission case, to access this you must jack the car up and crawl under it to see the plug

If this is an automatic then your car uses transmission fluid.

It differs with use but for a rule of thumb you can look at the fluid on the dipstick against a white cloth and if it brown to black looking not a reddish color you should have it serviced.Either a drain and fill or a complete trans flush if it is black.Your trans will thank you

You should change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles.
