INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT Using a 30 mm socket wrench, install a new hub nut.
Torque: 216 N*m (2,200 kgf*cm, 159 ft.*lbf).

One side at a time

if rotors are serviceable
undo the lower calliper bolt .. loosen the top one

take note of the clips position or take photos as you go
swing up the calliper from the bottom

g clamp the calliper piston in till it stops
check the calliper slide are loose and working

pull out the old pads fit the new
lower the calliper
tighten both bolts

when other side is done
press the brake pedal a few times
so the piston is pushing the pads to the rotor

lift car up on 4 stands undo wheels and look for leaks and brakes worn pads and fit new sensors when u replace pads . if not buy yourselves a obd 2 tester with one plug lead that goes on u car and follow the prompt to identify u troble .

your rear brakes are shot as they are the tightest
the fronts should grab hard when you press very hard
if they are mushy you need brakes bad
you should fell very comfortable that you have great brakes.
when you press the pedal it should feel strong after 1inch of play
mush means your gonna die or kills someone.
have your brakes bled as a service this will allow them to test them for you at same time . thats the limit you can adjust brakes.

The choice in pads will be totally up to you. The ceramic pads offer extended life, with little to no brake dust, where the metallic pads are just the opposite. I would recommend that you use ceramic pads, you will get your money's worth out of them.

some vehicles have a sensor that attaches to the brake pads and when they wear to the point that the sensor touches the rotor, it'll wear the plastic off the sensor and touch the metal inside to trigger a replace brakes light on your dash. im not familiar with the prius's system, but if you had a wire going to your brake pads, you'll need to replace it. once the sensor is triggered, it's no good anymore.

I had a 2008 rav4 and within the first 10,000 I noticed this problem. Had the pads changed at 12, 22, 30, all free of charge from the dealer. Had the rotors replaced as well twice, the issue came up again & since it was a lease I threatened to sue and I was released from my term fee free. If you are having the same issue post here we need to open a dialogue. I'm sure many people have just paid for repairs without thinking it's an issue on the vehicle. Toyota will deny it until it's a media issue....

You shouldn't need to remove the calipers altogether just to replace the pads. You have remove the split pins or retaining springs on the old pads, then prize back the caliper pistons enough to remove them. Then push the pistons back some more enough to get the new pads in. Then reassemble and test.
