I have a 1997 doge 1500 with 50k on a crate 360 motor, the truck has 200k, the truck runs great. some time when I slow down or come to a stop the truck stalls on me and I have to throw it in park or nuetral and start it back up. No problems on the restart. Could this be a fuel pump or fuel filter or could it ahve something to do with the Fuel injectors?
Most likely your fuel injectors are not in question but not out of the picture. To check if this is a fuel pump OR filter you can get your fuel pressure checked. it should be around 40 to 50 psi depending on vehicle. And yes as you stated in your question it could be the fuel pump causing this, or it could also be your fuel pressure regulator. You may also want to get a diagnostic trouble code test done to see if your ECM is telling you anything. This problem could be anything from mass air flow sensor to throttle positioning sensor to intake control senor or even a stuck exhaust gas regulator. The only way you can really know is to try one thing at a time until you get er figured out. Start with the air filter then fuel filter (cheap parts) then get the fuel pressure checked, and work your way down the line. What i would recommend is getting your truck checked by a DTC reader. Autozone pepboys O'reilly's will all do this for you free of charge.
Fuel pressure may be an issue. I would think your low idle is set to low and drops of when you come to a stop. Clogged fuel injectors could cause that also.
A code reader rented from an auto parts store would be a good start to see if its thrown any code.
